“Amazing i every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

We were told to at the very least visit this hotel while we were in Hanoi. When we looked online, it was actually a pretty good price for when we wanted to go.
As the hotel wasnt completely booked, they upgraded us to a Premium Grand room....simply stunning.
EVERYTHING about this hotel is pure luxury and divine.
In the French Quarter, close to everything but a little away from Old Town to enjoy the quiet.
Staff were amazing.
Do the High Tea and Chocolate Feast, its worth it!
We would definetely splurge again and stay there next time.
Spectacular...

Room Tip: Opera Wing was gorgeous, we would chose this side again.

We stayed in the Sofitel Hanoi for three nights. The rooms are fabulous with innovative decorating and showers with high water pressure. The level of service is very high. The bars, restaurants and spa are all first class. The food, with a French influence, is delicious. I would definitely stay again.

If you want a 5-star experience in Hanoi this can be the only place for you. We stayed just one night and wished we'd stayed longer. This is a really professionally run high class hotel. From the time we arrived until the time we left I could not fault the hotel or the staff. We paid for the "club" package - I don't know how much extra it was, but it was worth it, bearing in mind the afternoon tea, the glasses of champagne and nibbles in the evening, and the wonderful breakfast. Six stars.
We enjoyed the location - nice to walk to and from the old quarter, and arrive back in a haven of tranquility away from the traffic. I cannot imagine many hotels in Hanoi have a lovely pool to relax by as this one does. A truly great hotel. We had stayed earlier in the Hotel de l'Opera before a trip to Halong Bay, but this was a very very different experience.

Room Tip: We were in the "new" wing which was terrific and where the Club room is located.

We had a club room in the new part of the hotel. The club was worth the extra money. Breakfast was great. Afternoon tea was so lovely. Evening drinks and nibbles were great. The butler service that comes with the club room was so very helpful.
The room was spacious and very modern. Gym was good with drinks and food on offer.
We ate at the Vietnamese and the Italian restaurants. They were both top quality.
The bar by the pool was excellent. We did the bunker tour the hotel offered which takes you into a bunker under the pool bar, very unique thing to do and if you have time make sure you do it.
We would rate this the best hotel we have been to.

Stayed 3 nights at the end of a 5 week trip. We booked and paid a little extra for club rooms. On arrival we were greeted on the steps by the GM and senior staff we were then escorted straight to the 7th floor handed over our passports and our floor butler checked us in and took the bags to our room. While we waited we were provided with tea , coffee and soft drinks and shown to a light meal buffet, all at no cost. The rooms were classically stylish and plenty of space for bags. In the evening at 5.30 to 7.30 there is another complimentary hot and cold buffet with complimentary alcohol (including french champagne which was $25 a glass!) Breakfast was served in 5 different venues and superb. We only ate out once at night because the traffic is truly frightening during the day impossible at night. This was really no problem as the hotel restaurants were sensational particularly the french. This place is a must in Hanoi.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and get a club room the benefits are more than worth it!

I stayed in the hotel when the VIP was in town with 200 security officers. The GM wrote a nice letter to all guests explaining the need for additional safety measures, considering who was staying at the hotel.

The hotel guards and Russian officers were firm but polite. In the end, it was quite a good experience actually, especially since I had the chance to see him as he walked out of the lobby. With 200 security officers. That was quite a sight.

I stayed there for 3 nights and when I checked in I was given an upgrade from the original Premium room I had booked in the Opera Wing (recently refreshed part of the hotel) to a larger room in the Historical Wing. I was pleased as on the hotel website this wing is advertised as the most sophisticated due to its French colonial style atmosphere. Well, I tell you: it's not worth... it is simply older, you don't really perceive such a charming touch just because the room features old furniture and smells also not so nicely. Moreover my room overlooked the main street and all this old-fashioned style didn't prove to be soundproof either therefore the sleep quality wasn't good. I had had my doubts about this upgrade and in fact my theory was immediately supported when I required to be moved to the Opera Wing according to my original reservation: the hotel was fully booked and they had no availability for my first night. I then kindly insisted on my request and the reception staff eventually managed to meet it. They were very professional and willing to assist. The new room was very good with nice decors and a modern bathroom. The only criticism is: why didn't they upgrade the shower either? It's a standard bath tube type while such an accommodation definitely deserves a walk-in rain-shower. This is what you expect when you pay more than US$ 300,00 per night... Anyway the hotel is overall very nice, the internal courtyard offers a great view on the swimming pool and the possibility of having a light meal by the pool at the café. Breakfast was excellent with multiple choice of traditional items such as yogurt, cereals, eggs, etc. along with the local Asian specialties like dim-sum and stir fried noodles. You also have the choice to enjoy it outdoor by the pool, which prevents your body from getting hibernated due to the strong air conditioning of the restaurant. Again, it was a great experience but in Hanoi there are other options that are getting more competitive in terms of value for money (Intercontinental Westlake for instance).

Room Tip: Opera Wing, preferably overlooking the swimming pool
