“Small but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

It takes you by surprise initially, a hotel the width of small house, deep and 6 floors but that is the old quarter of Hanoi. The room was not big, how can it be, but neat and well equipped, including a computer and wireless broadband. The inclusive breakfast is an 'a-la-carte' buffet with fresh French loaf and great. The location of the hotel is at the edge of the old quarter and also near places like the 'one pillar pagoda' making much of what there is to see in walking distance. Liked it a lot.

This hotel is located right in Old Quarter but in a quiet road.
The room was clean, confortable bed, with laptop in the room.
We really appreciated the room upgrade.
The breakfast was good.
The staff spoke good english.
The worst: The driver in the pick up was not in the airport.
We found dirty ear cotton buds!Disgusting!

My dear Amaiagares,

That is so helpful when reading your review after your staying at your home away from home – Hanoi Calypso Grand Hotel. I am so appreciated when you taking your moment to write to us.

Your comments help me to find out the lacking item checked as the cottons bud you mentioned. First I and my team so sorry for the inconvenience caused as we know how to keep trying our best to be perfect to serve next coming guests better day by day.

About the airport pick up, due to the terminal security and it’s policy all the drivers and guides who looking forward to meeting their guest are waited at the pointed area which given. So that is some time guests feel confused and not like the other cities, I hope you will be easy with this when letting you know the inside.

At any time we could able to do upgrade for you or our guests and hope that with our offer you will be happy with that. Specially that is the chance for us to show you our rooms and its comfort.

Well that is all for now and we are looking forward to seeing you again soon at Hanoi Calypso Grand Hotel as with our best wishes.

Regards
Mr. Mark – Hotel Manager

Stayed 5 nights in March 2013 in a Jnr. Suite at the Calypso Grand. The hotel is well sited for expeditions into the traffic chaos of the Hanoi old quarter and had a balcony overlooking the front street. Just relaxing to sip a cold beer and watch daily life unfold below was great. The hotel is a small boutique hotel and while not the 5 star quality of home it made up for it in other aspects. A building is only bricks and mortar..it's the staff that make it a truly nice place to stay. The service was excellent and they all went to extreme lengths to make our stay comfortable and secure. Jay arranged all our tours and on our way back from Halong Bay even arranged a separate 7 seat car to meet us at a predetermined point with the balance of our luggage so we could continue straight to the airport and save time to meet our plane to Danang.
Additionally the breakfast was excellent, the beds and room comfortable, and the Hanoi beer was cold. Even had a computer available for use in the room and free WiFi. What more could you want. Congratulations Calypso Grand!

After stayed in Four Season Hotel for 2 nights, we decided to stay in Calypso Grand Hotel for the last night in Hanoi, I met the General Manager in the lobby, he is very nice, helpful and friendly. Hotel, room and toilet look present, clean and well maintain. You may try noodles prawn soup beside hotel and mobile top up nearby. Taxi to the lake and town center about 10 minutes. Airport taxi US 18.

This was our first hotel in Vietnam, and even at the time we knew we'd found something special. Whilst we travelled further through Vietnam, this just confirmed what a GEM the Calypso Grand really is. Yes the rooms have no windows, but this is common in Vietnam and only adds to perfect sleep. The staff are truely out of this world, a big thank you to Mark and his team, including Frank Vuong. They made this stay feel as if we we're in a major 5 star hotel. They go above and beyond, so we just had to take them out for a drink after work! The hotel is great, but the team here are in a word AMAZING. Thank you guys for making Hanoi a great trip.

It was a fantastic place to stay as our introduction to Vietnam. Both the owner and receptionist went out of our way to make us feel very welcome, providing us with plenty of useful info about the surroundings. The owner even fought our corner when we were (stupidly!) victims to a taxi scam, and ensured we secured alternative transport to make our flight. The room was gorgeous - way above our expectations, and the breakfast was the best I had in Vietnam. Would definitely stay here if I am in Hanoi again.
