“Consistently high-quality services, beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

We stayed at the Calypso Grand Hotel in Hanoi for two nights and would happily have stayed longer. Our hotel room was beautifully decorated and maintained, with lots of features to add to our ease and comfort -- inroom computer with wifi, inroom safe, bathrobes, seasonal fresh fruit changed daily. The breakfasts were really excellent, and served in a clean, comfortable dining room behind the lobby. The service was consistently excellent as well: tours, directions, recommendations, taxis, all provided with a cheerful, friendly attitude. Our tour guide to Hoa Lua and Tam Coc, arranged through the hotel, was outstanding, definitely the best we had in Viet Nam. When a problem arose, as problems sometimes inevitably do (in our case a stuck elevator), the hotel staff resolved it quickly, skillfully, and with a positive attitude. The only constructive criticism I would offer about the hotel is, it might want to consider using a softer and/or thicker mattress for its "extra" beds. We used (and paid for) an extra bed (we're a family of three) and while the regular king-size bed was very comfortable, the extra twin-size bed was hard as a board -- not a huge problem for us as we often camp and backpack, but not the most comfortable sleeping experience all the same.

Room Tip: If you'd like a quiet room I'd recommend asking for a room at the back of the hotel; no view...

I am writing this review in our last of 4 nights here - using the free wifi in the room.

Hanoi is a rather intense place and Calypso has been a perfect hotel to return to after exploring. The staff are incredibly friendly and gave plenty of helpful tips throughout the stay, we quickly felt at home.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, while breakfast is very tasty. One of the key pluses of this hotel is its location; right in the Old Quarter close to everything but in a street that was relatively peaceful compared to others. Trust me hen I say this is a BIG plus.

Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed in both a standard room and junior suite. Given it was winter and therefore had no use for...

There are a lot of hotels in Hanoi. This one stands out best. Our stay in Hanoi was extremely satisfying and memorable. Staff at all levels are spontaneously courteous, sincere and attentive. It's hospitality personified at Calypso Grand !!!!!

Everything was arranged meticulously. The tours to Sapa and Ha Long Bay were handled with finese.

Totally inspired by the Vietnamese charm and hospitality, due mainly to the well-trained staff at Calypso Grand.

See you soon.

Room Tip: Every room is in tip top condition.

I stayed at the Calypso Grand for one night after staying at the Calypso Legend for 2 nights. Both hotels were very consistent with check-in, hotel staff service, breakfast, and room amenities and cleanliness. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Hanoi as you will have such a pleasant experience given the staff are ready and willing to explain to you anything you require and answer all your questions to ensure a safe and pleasant stay. The location is great in the Old Quarter and a short walk away from the middle of the action, but far enough that it's quiet and relaxing. The breakfast was a highlight for us as we like to have the option of comforts from home for breakfast like eggs, french toast, etc. so we can start our day right before we venture out and we tend to eat a lot which was great because it was unlimited. The breakfast is made to order with many options, along with free-flowing fresh fruit, fruit juices, toast, coffee and much more laid out for you to choose from. The staff also packs the breakfast for you to go if you need to leave early in the morning for a tour or the airport. Every time we would come back to the hotel we warmly welcomed, remembered and cared for. Definitely made the stay so much more pleasant. Our rooms were simple, but very clean and well-maintained. I'm not one for mold, dust or the smell of smoke and was pleasantly surprised that I was completely fine staying at these hotels and didn't have an allergy outbreak, which is a sign of a clean hotel! I would recommend this hotel chain for anyone traveling to Hanoi.

I stayed at Calypso Grand on the recommendation from a friend in Sydney. I am so pleased they suggested it. I had arrived in Hanoi alone and ended up at a hotel in the french quarter. It had been recommended and looked good on the web site but was far from the heart of hanoi...the old quarter is where you want to be. Tony took me in hand and helped arrange everything for me from bus and train transport, private drivers and hotel bookings in other parts of vietnam. He even rang when I arrived to make sure all was ok. I left Hanoi for Sapa and returned early, with Tony managing all refunds and alterations without a problem. Travelling in Vietnam can be difficult if you do not have a vietnamese person you can trust helping you. I totally rely upon Tony.
The hotel calypso is as comfortable and as stylish as a first class hotel but with a much lower cost. The breakfast is fabulous, the rooms have large baths and the style is clean minimal and comfortable. There are even bathrobes!

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are really fabulous with private balcony and luxurious bathrooms

We have just spent a couple of nights here, it was great, the rooms are modern, clean and are really quiet, you wouldn't know you are right in the middle of a busy city, the staff are lovely and really helpful, they helped us book our trip to halong bay and gave great recommendations on restaurants, bars, shopping and the sights. Cannot praise them highly enough! Definitely recommended!

Be careful as there are two Calypso hotels in Hanoi. This one is the Calypso Grand Hotel, located on the west side of Hanoi's Old Quarter.

The location is good, enabling clients to visit the Old Quarter without getting too much of its noise. All locations of the Old Quarter are within 10-15 minutes walk. The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Cathedral and the Temple of Literature are also within walking distance. On the left of the hotel are some of the best Hanoi street food joints.

The hotel is very clean. Rooms are generally big and have some charm. Beds in deluxe rooms are simply huge. All rooms are equipped with a computer with fast internet access. Fresh fruits are offered every day, as well as water.

The service is excellent. All hotel staff, from the manager to the doorman, are extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel offers good packages for visiting Halong Bay, and can book restaurants and activities.

We had an excellent stay and are happy to recommend this hotel.
