“Excellent service, great hotel, convenient location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

We were in a group of three couples staying 4 nights at Calypso. Rooms clean, quiet, regularly serviced, balcony rooms spacious, standard rooms still with plenty of space, computer and free wi-fi in both. And while all of this would encourage me to stay again, it was the staff service that really stands out. Kevin, Jay and others booked trips, re-arranged flights, bought mobile phones, accompanied my father to pharmacy when he developed bronchitiis, packed food parcels for us for the overnight train to Hue, gave as a free room for a few hours to shower before the train, and then called the next morning to make sure our hotel pick-up in Hue had arrived. The Old Quarter location made access to main sites easy. This was our first stop in our 3 week visit to Vietnam, and the stand out hotel experience. Loved it and can't recommend it highly enough.

We stayed at Calypso Grand because it was recommended to us by fellow travelers and we are glad we did! We were at the Calypso Grand Hotel May 28-30/2012 and one night on June 5/2012 before we left Vietnam. We had initially booked two nights and when we wanted to stay a 3rd night, the superior room was not available so we were upgraded to a suite room. On our return June 5, we again were upgraded to the suite. We found the hotel to be super clean, luxurious, with modern amenities (computers in the room and free wi-fi) and served great breakfasts. We were impressed upon our arrival with being greeted with a glass of fresh juice, and given superb instructions about the area, including a map with recommended taxis / sightseeing/ restaurants. The night receptionist, in fact, everyone, had pleasant, welcoming smiles. It really was a haven in a busy, bustling city. The hotel is in a good location, was quiet and we think excellent value. Two other items to add: upon our return from Halong Bay, we took a taxi from the bus station to the hotel. Upon arrival, the hotel staff met us at the kerb, and checked the price of the meter of the taxi, and verified it was a valid price. We later booked a taxi with the Hotel to go to the airport the day. We paid $18 which we believe was the going price. Overall, we were very, very pleased with the Calypso Grand hotel: The room was great, breakfast tasty and above all, the staff helpful and friendly. We traveled in Asia for six weeks, and this hotel stands out in our minds as one of the best and excellent value. We have recommended the hotel to others since.

Do yourself a favour and stay at this hotel. Great rooms, very clean and spacious - biggest bed in Vietnam!! The staff are excellent and very very helpfull. Welcome drink on arrival, breakfast is great, onward travel arrangements are not a problem. Taxi arranged by staff turned out to be a bit pricey but didn't phase us too much however 2 days later the staff had arranged a refund from the taxi company!!! Amazing!!!

My wife and i stayed at the Calypso Grand Hotel a total of 4 nights in May. We found that Kevin and his very friendly staff would go out of their way to make our time In Hanoi memorable, including arranging an overnight tour of Halong Bay and receiving an upgrade to a suite room upon our return. Breakfast was great, and the rooms were spotless, a great place for the Hnoi experience.

Within easy reach of many of the Hanoi's best sights, and right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Old City (but with good sound insulation so we never heard the noise from the road). The rooms are clean and comfy and the staff went out of their way to help us, even giving us breakfast and a room when we arrived at 6am from a train despite our stay not officially beginning until that afternoon. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

This place is right in the middle of the Old Quarter, practically within walking distance of everywhere you want to be.

The rooms are nice and clean, with WiFi, good air conditioning, & great views. They may seem a little dated, but it was nice and spacious. However, if you get a room with a private "balcony", note that it's barely 1 to 2 feet long so you really can't relax out there.

They serve breakfast downstairs and it's pretty decent.

The front desk is very friendly and helpful with suggestions and arranging transportation, cabs or otherwise.

One word of caution: If you get a private driver arranged by the hotel, MAKE SURE the driver knows where he's going. Case in point: We arranged for a private driver to take us to Ha Long Bay for a cruise we were taking. When I tried to get directions for myself, the manager of the hotel told me, "Don't worry. The driver's done this a million times. He knows where he's going." Well guess what? The driver took us to the wrong dock 5 miles out of the way. We almost missed our boat. The positive side was it was a fantastic deal and we will probably do it again. But this time we'll make sure the driver (and ourselves) know exactly how to get there.

My family stayed for 3 nights in this hotel and it was great! The airport pickup was free, efficient and on time. Check in was fast and hassle free (it was about 2 am already).
We even got a free room upgrade. Breakfast was good.

The rooms were nice and clean. Lots of space. There were computers inside the rooms with internet connection and wifi!

The staff's really commendable. They're friendly and welcoming. The front desk is very helpful and kind in guiding you to places, making reservations and even forex!

Overall, it was a splendid stay and we would definitely go back here if we're in Hanoi again.
