“Friendly staff and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2014

We were in Hanoi for 5 nights. All the staff on duty were very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. Jenna who worked at the front desk was especially helpful in providing us directions to attractions and offering suggestions for dining out. The rooms were clean and well appointed.
The buffet breakfast which was included in the cost provided us a wide variety of choices.

This hotel is in a great location in the old quarter and you just walk outside and you've got all the shops, bars, and restaurants you could ever want. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are modern and very clean. Only downside was that our room didn't have a window. They disguised it very well so the room wasn't claustrophobic, but ask for a room with a window!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a window to the street! Ours just had a window to an internal air duct type thing.

I stayed there for 3 nights. The location is great, only 5minutes walk to the lake and next to very nice shops on ''silk'' road.
The room was nice but with no window. Evene though i don't know if this is a disadvantage due to air pollution and to heavy traffic. Also, the walls weren't soundproof at all.
Breakfast was very good and the staff was super friendly.

less than 5 walking minutes to the lake in the city center, lots of restaurants and shops nearby.

we booked a "Studio Suite" (we got room 906 - don't expect a suite), which should have a balcony. first we wondered why there was a 3rd bed in the room, later we saw that there were 3 bottles of complimentary water (one already opened and used), no balcony, so we went to the reception and asked if they gave us the wrong room, but the staff told us we even got an upgrade.. that was a lie, since our room did not have any features of the "luxury suite". the next day we saw that there was a family, so maybe they complained about the room and got the room we booked..

the wall between bathroom and bedroom was full of mold and it was right next to the bed!!!
dust on the bedside table, lamp, dead insects in the lamp,..

anyways, size of bathroom was alright.

breakfast was quite good and varied, but staff need more training in friendliness and attention (waiter asks us if we want some coffee, forgot to bring it).

some chairs and small tables in front of the hotel, facing the busy street which is full of motorbikes, ashtrays (also used as wastebin) seldom emptied.

Room Tip: room in upper floors, but even in the 9th floor you can hear the motorbikes at night.

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel on our honeymoon and everything was great. The room was clean and beautifully arranged, bed very comfy, the reception staff very friendly and helpful, though not all speak good English and the location is great, right in the middle of the Old Quarter and close to the Hoan Kiem lake. All main attractions are at walking distance and if you don't want to walk much they have a taxi sent for you in no time. You can also book a taxi to the airport and pay directly at the reception, very convenient on our last day as we were not sure how many dong we had left. Breakfast is great and varied and it starts at 06:00 a.m. so even if you are booked for a tour that starts early you still have time for a nice hot breakfast. Another thing we found very convenient was the fact that the have 2 computers with internet in the reception lobby which guests can use free of charge anytime. The only down side I see is the noise in the street. Even at the 9th floor where our room was we could hear cars horning all the time, but that's how they drive in Hanoi and you get used to it quickly.

If you want a quiet nights sleep, go to the back of hotel. Only thing about this is that you have no window. At the front you do but on a busy street. I had two rooms here. One of each as had two separate nights here with a day away.
Both rooms were excellent and of high standard. I preferred the rear of hotel but you will be woken by noisy residents exiting in the morning from around 6am slamming doors. If on 3rd floor, you will here the breakfast room noise if corridor doors not closed as this is on the 2nd floor.
Location was great. 5 minute walk from lake and nightlife in area such as the puppet theatre.
Restaurant and bar very good and staff excellent.

Room Tip: Go to back of hotel for a better sleep in my opinion but you have no window. Still get a good sleep...

Beautiful & well appointed Boutique Hotel right in the centre of the old city of Hanoi. Fairly recently refurbished.

Rooms are quite small as are the bathrooms with over bath showers which I personally don't favour. Only the luxury suites have windows to the outside; all other rooms either have no window or in our case we have an "internal" window which looks out on to the corridor. It is a bit disconcerting not to be able to see proper daylight from your hotel room but it can be got over as the room is basically a place for sleep.

Breakfast is served from 6am to a very convenient 10am & there is the usual variety & fusion - traditional Vietnamese alongside European items. Lots of interesting looking breads & croissants but I didn't sample as I have a wheat allergy but I did "pig out" on the wonderful fresh fruits & the home made yogurt.

Free WiFi throughout the entire hotel.

I booked & paid for a 3 night stay & would definitely stay longer but we've hit really bad weather with constant rain & very cold so we will head south again very soon.

I can honestly recommend the Golden Silk Boutique Hotel.
