We stayed for 1 night and then another 2 nights after an overnight trip to ha long bay. The location right on the edge of the old quarter is great, the staff are always helpful and the rooms were very comfortable. Now for the bad points..... the superior or deluxe room 701 with a balcony sounds great, but you got the full force of the afternoon sun (pretty useless to sit out after 10 AM) and because the door and windows to the balcony were not sound proof, you get all the street noise! The second room we got on the 3rd floor was better, since the street noise did'nt infiltrate as much thru the door to the small balcony. The buffet breakfast was okay, but the basement is not the most appealing place to have breaky. Like a lot of hotels in Vietnam, the coffee is crap (for the 3 weeks we were in Vietnam, we went out every morning and had a couple of cups of coffee at a local cafe). The grand neo-classical facade is out of character for a building in Asia and seems to promise more that it can deliver, for a small boutique hotel. Choose a room away from the street.

We are writing to express our acknowledgement of your feedback for a proper awareness of our situation, and accordingly quick reactions to the fact.
First of all, we deeply apologize for not doing good jobs enough for the purpose of fulfilling your satisfaction during the stay at Meracus Hotel 1. And honestly, when your vacation has been affected by any issue, we feel the same way you do.
Actually, we can say that the Deluxe Room 701 has the best view of city & central lake since it’s suited on the top floor, and in our experiences, many guests had particularly requested to stay in that room and enjoyed it in deed as a highly recommended room. As a result, we arranged it for you on your arrival with the hope that it would be a good choice for you in the Spring time of Hanoi. However, the weather of a tropical country really bothered you, especially the sun with its heat, and we understand how you felt and there should have been a roof/cover to give the balcony some shade. But every issue has its own reason. According to the local government’s law, we are not allowed to extend any part of the building forward, even when we really need to, but we haven’t had any chance so far and unfortunately, it is really out of our control. Therefore, we still have to wait until our proposal goes through.
Furthermore, the location of this hotel is just great as mentioned before, but every coin has two sides, as it’s right in the middle of city center, and consequently the traffic here is also the heaviest with noise. In fact, we have equipped 02 sound-proofed windows in order to recude the bad noise and get more sunlight, but couldn’t make a bigger change for the door since it might make the room hotter, and as mentioned above we couldn’t do much with any action of re-construction for a better enhancement. On the orther hand, many other guests alo said that it got better when staying on higher floors (remarkably the top one) to be away from the streets. But we are very sorry as it still influenced your sleep somehow.
For the coffee, we know that each guest has a different taste for his drink, thus we have made 02 types of coffee: medium and strong flavors to try to meet everyone’s demand, however, we have failed in making a suitable one for you, and it’s our responsibility to fix it up. Our F&B team is working on the local coffee brands to find out the best one possible, which has traditional taste like filtered coffee but not too strong for Western drinkers, and hopefully it would be the coffee all guests want to try. Besides, due to the limited area of the Old Quarter and the unchangable design of building, we are not able to remove the restaurant to anywhere else better, but we keeping maintaining and redecorating to create nice ambience and conditions for guests to have comfort and conveniences during the first meal of a day.
Truly, your review is appreciated for being constructive and necessary for us to know the reality of our establishment, and thanks to yours, we will have proper reactions in plan to gain the quality of room facilities and certain services as well.
Again, on behalf the Management Board and whole staff, we apologize for letting you down this time, but this is also a motivation for us to change and try harder for better jobs. You have truly given us a new target to aim at and be thristy to accomplish. We thank you for this.
