“Excellent choice for a budget hotel in Hanoi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Checked into this old quarter hotel three days ago and could not have made a better choice as far as quality for the price.
Altho my room is on the third floor and there is no elevator the climb up is no big deal.
First appearance the hotel looks a little tired and dated but the room is huge with fantastic aircon, t.v. with a lot of english language channels (HBO, CINEMAX, ect.) there is a mini fridge and the bed is one of the more comfortable I have had staying in budget hotels around Vietnam-good linens and pillows too.
Bath is clean and HUGE with lots of hot water, big towels and even toiletries.
Wifi in the room has not failed once but does get a little slower during the day.
The best part is the friendly staff whom have gone out of their way to help us with everything from directions to laundry and booked us a three day, two night Halong Bay excursions for much less than other travel touts.
Don't be fooled by the name this ''guesthouse" is more of a small hotel smack in the middle of all the action in the old quarter with many restaurants, bars and nightclubs meters away yet the rooms are an oasis of quiet relaxation. Its walking distance to almost all the sites and just three blocks to Hoan Kiem Lake.
5 star it is not but its only $20 for a single with breakfast included. You may find cheaper in the neighborhood but for what you get its a deal in my opinion. Book on line for a better deal.
Have already booked for another stay upon return from Halong Bay.

Room Tip: For a good nights sleep get rooms 206-209, 306-309, 406-409

We had a good time in this guesthouse. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, aircon/fan/wifi works fine and we even had a nice balcony. Most remarkable was the good service if we wanted to book a tour. They were very honest about prices and value, wich resulted in a great trip to Ha Long Bay and Sapa. We were very happy to stay here, our home in Hanoi.

this hotel is definitely a guest house, from the moment you walk through the front door to the passage leading to the room. it does not feel like a hotel, it has a buzz to it somehow.
room wise, we picked the basic room with 1 queen and 1 single bed. room itself was big, with a balcony of the street below. carpet flooring with high ceiling. the building itself is an old guesthouse, shook the room feels very different. not contemporary but unique. the bathroom on the other hand could use some improvement. it had all the modern equipments but it just does not look or feel that way. but I didn't mind, as long as there was hot water after a long day outdoor. room was clean daily.
our room located on the first floor, wifi was free, but poor on my phone(htc desire hd).
breakfast was free and serve well with the usual option of either pho or western breakfast. if you want something extra or more breakfast, you need to pay.
as for location, the guesthouse is located on the main street of the old quarter, lots of restaurants around. 5 mins walk to the market and hoan kiem lake.
staffs are very friendly and helpful, will help you get around the city if need be, also with recommendation on where to eat. ask for a map a direction to a very nice local grill fish restaurant, number 14 on the map :)

Thinking of my stay here. Not being fuzzy with the rooms as I travel alone. It was a nice place to meet up and have a chat with other guests over some booze of course.
The staff working here are pleasant. The only disappointment, having said that I don't give a care about how the room looks like, early morning after my first night, I could hear intolerable noises from outside. Took me hours to put myself to sleep again.
Overall, it's quite an ok 2 night stay. More than that would be a fiasco.

This place was a lot bigger than I thought so there's lots of rooms available. $12 for 2 people with 2 beds: a full sized and a twin.

Compliments:
1. The young staff members are nice (not the manager)
2. They will call a cab for you to pick u up from the airport ($17)
3. Low price compared to other hotels
Complaints:
1. Dirty: The bathroom said it was sanitized but there was a cigarette butt in there and it just looked nasty. Wear the sandals they give you.
2. Loud: The rooms inside are situated in a square figure with the stairs and an open balcony centrally so all sounds reverberate. I could hear staff conversations from downstairs, people laughing, walking up and down the stairs...it got silent at around 1:00am.
3. Manager was not friendly to us when we tried to negotiate a price the 2nd night so we left.
4. Breakfast NOT included. Online it said it was included in the price but the manager insisted that it was a mistake & stilll did not give me breakfast.

Summary: All in all I got a strange vibe from that place, particularly the women who worked there. I would not stay there again. If you plan on getting drunk, stay here as you won't be bothered my the dirtiness and loud noises at night. If you are on a budget and want another alternative, try right next door at Hanoi Guesthouse, Camellia Hotels. It is $12 a night, the rooms are bigger and more comfortable.
