“great location, comfortable, very helpful.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

First Choice Hotel is situated in the Old Quarter, close to Lake, restaurants, and shops. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, best beds ever!
Kim on the desk was extremely helpful with organising tours and arranging everything........money exchange, laundry, phone recharge, restaurants to eat at, shops to go to also the prices that we should be paying, all helpful advise,
The staff are all welcoming, nothing is to much trouble, it has a family feeling.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Room Tip: Ask for a front room, very large with a balcony

I don't know why there are so many great reviews for this hotel. Apart from our great front-facing room on the 4th floor (the only reason we stayed on for a few days) the rest of the experience (breakfast, cleaning, staff), was really only average compared to other hotels we have stayed in in Vietnam. They do have quite an extensive breakfast menu, but the full choice was never available. Despite asking for room cleaning when we left in the morning, it was often not done by 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Half the lights in the room didn't work, though to be fair we didn't ask them to fix it as we didn't want to be bothered. On the plus side, coffee and tea were available all day, and wifi worked well. We had to move as they were full, and there are other good options around if you look.

Room Tip: We were in the front facing room on the 4th floor and would recommend that. It wasn't too noisy...

Hanoi First Choice Hotel is a perfect good hotel at decent prices. The reception is very helpful and gave us advise (where to eat, shopping etc.). The rooms and especially the bathroom was clean and got checked often. The beds were soft, but thats the way I like it. I would defiantly recommend this hotel to friends.

This hotel has everything you want. It is in a good quiet location and it is very clean. The rooms are nice and the staff is very nice. Definitely one of the better choices in the area. Also it is far enough from the church where you cannot hear the bells. Some of the hotels down the street close to the church can be noisy cause the bell starts ringing at about 5 am which can be quite annoying.

We arrived late a tonight, they were very helpful and friendly checking us in, told us not to worry about anything until the morning,a nd just gave us our keys straight away. Really honest people, helped us book a halong bay tour and said that we didn't have to pay until we got back from it, incase it wasn't how they described. The tour we were on was fantastic and well priced, a one night two day sleeping on a boat in halong bay with all food provided, activities, tours etc. Highly recommended. Breakfast was great, Vietnamese breakfast came through the front doors from a restaurant a few shops down. Best thing were definitely the incredible staff. So accommodating. We changed our booking when we arrived and then when coming back from the Mekong tour they gave us a free upgrade into one of the front rooms which were huge! Try and get a front room... Their best rooms but I think would definitely be recommended. Highly recommended. Walking distance to all things great. Not too noisy or crowded either. Just off a main street.

Room Tip: One of the front, executive, larger rooms, worth the extra few dollars and better than the back room...

I had a great help from staffs.
Although I could not talk Vietnamese and not know the places of Hanoi,
The hotel staff arranged my trip and called to talk by Vietnamese instead of me.
So I could finished my works.

I stayed here with a friend following a recommendation from someone back home. We found this place great value for money and close enough to the lake and old quarter but secluded enough on beautiful Au Trieu street which didn't get much of the street noise at night. Breakfast was great and included in the price was some great menu choices, not just your typical continental menu, so we had Vietnamese food for breakfast each morning. Our only comment was that we booked a twin room but were put in a double and there weren't enough rooms to change us back, however we aren't sure whether this was more an issue with Agoda (who we booked through) than the hotel itself. Chi was very helpful as she is fluent in English and we also booked our Ha Long Bay trip through these guys which was great fun. If you are looking for a great budget hotel this one is worthwhile (just don't expect anything flash, though its clean and comfortable) and the beds are amazingly comfortable. On a side note, check out the staircase, it's hilarious - they've put in a lift and the staircase has suffered as a result! I just fitted through perfectly but others may have to turn side on! Adds to the quirky Vietnamese charm!
