Customer service was AMAZING, from chauffeuring us to the train station and picking us up again after our weekend in Sapa, recommending amazing local restaurants, even letting us have a shower in an unused room after our long flight when our room wasn't ready yet. Room was spacious, clean, lovely. Great breakfast. Unbeatable location. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

All things considered this might just be the best hotel I have ever stayed in. From the great location, immaculate rooms, charming and friendly staff to the restaurant that serves some of the best food (Viet and western), this place is hard to beat. It eating an old world charm with modern efficiency but delivered with warmth and sincerity. The restaurant staff are lovely and interesting to talk with. Front of house staff went to great lengths to help me plan my onward journey south and from booking train and plane tickets and hotel rooms nothing was too much trouble and it made for smooth sailing.

The fact that the staff seem to enjoy their work suggests a happy workplace and tht is a tribute to management.

The Essence is a delightful experience, hard to beat.

Gee, I only checked out 2 days ago and I already miss it!

This was by far the best hotel I've stayed in to date! The 5 star staff was polite and eager to help. The restaurant was amazing-food presentation, taste and service! The rooms were immaculate and comfortable. Placed in the middle of the busy streets of the city, this was a peaceful and quiet oasis. The staff knew all the guess by name and were very easy to talk with. If you want a 5 star treatment with a personal touch, this is the place!!

We arrived for our stay in Hanoi exhausted after almost 30 hours of travel from the US. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and enjoyed lovely hot ginger tea while checking in. The staff were so accommodating and helpful to us throughout our stay from giving directions, hiring taxis, providing umbrellas, etc. One gentleman (I wish I had noted his name) even took the time to tell us step-by-step how to make the lovely ginger tea that they served as the welcome drink. The room was very comfortable, clean, and inexplicably quiet for being in the heart of the Old Quarter. The location is ideal...just a few blocks from the lake and a very inexpensive taxi ride to local museums. Daily breakfast was tasty and varied each morning. We had lunch at the restaurant one day and it was delicious and very reasonably priced. We booked a 2 day/1 night cruise in Halong Bay through the hotel in advance via email. I had concerns about booking in advance via email given the language difference and the fact that we booked 2 nights at the hotel, then 1 night cruise, followed by 1 final night in the hotel. Our booking was 100% accurate and it all went off without a hitch. The hotel stored our luggage during our cruise and we were able to pay the hotel rather than the cruise company. Do not hesitate to stay here, as I am certain it will not disappoint. I have never stayed at such a welcoming, lovely hotel for this price range. It's a gem!

We had a nice stay at the Essence Hotel. It is well located in the old quarter, around shops, restaurants and activities. The staff was quite helpful, directing us around the city. The room was well appointed and quiet rest stop from the hustle of the city. The only draw back was having the hotel arrange for the car to return us back to the airport. We had left the hotel on time, but during our transport, the driver had his ? young friend take a turn at the wheel. We had to suffer, watching bicycles pass us on the highway. After 20 minutes of this, we insisted that the driver or one of us take over the wheel. We had almost missed our flight. I would suggest that if you see two people in the front seat, you should just take a local taxi instead.

Stayed for 3 nights. Booked directly thru Ms Tho, very good communication. Lots of hotels to choose from in Hanoi and luckily made the right choice. Excellent location, very good restaurant, breakfast good and sufficient. Very reasonable rate. Lots of shops around the area. Everybody's just so helpful and friendly. Deluxe room is clean, comfortable and looks more a 4* hotel than it's rating of 3*. Room is provided with own laptop. Wifi connection is quite good. Arranged for a car pick-up at airport for $18. The only thing I can complain is that the back of the hotel is residential area and sometimes people are shouting, but it's not the fault of the hotel. Will stay here again if we decide to come back.

We stayed 7 nights at the essence and everything was wonderful from the internet reservation to our departure.
We scheduled a shuttle and although had a late arrival were happy to meet a smiling driver; we left early ( 4 am) and had breakfast in a bag waiting for us, as well as someone helping with the luggages!
Had done the checkout the night before, so all was in order for a smooth departure.
We enjoyed the freedom, to walk around, do nothing at the pool (small but never crowded) eat in town or at the hotel, (delicious food, maybe more expensive than other places in town, but it is often the case in hotels)
We used the spa and they accommodated us perfectly.
The hotel is not in the busy old town but 15 mn away. You can walk or take a shuttle who runs a few times a day, we used it to go to the beach, and it is always punctual.
We choose a family room for 2 teenagers and an adult, it was crowded but worked out well.
Breakfast is a delight, lots of fruits, eggs, we had a blast !!!
I highly recommend the place which gives you a sense of calm, within minutes of city activities.
