“Lovely hotel, great value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

A great hotel in the old quarter, close to the market and shops. We arrived back from Sapa at 5 am in the morning after the overnight train, arrived at their door and thought we would just have to wait on the steps but a lovely gentleman was there and let us in and we waited in the restaurant until breakfast, we were very tired and they saved us. Excellent rooms and comfy beds. Would definitely stay there again.

What a find - in the old quarter of Hanoi. The service was outstanding, the rooms well presented and clean, the restaurant was excellent. We would liked to have stayed longer. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to be close to the energy of The Old Quarter. We will be back again some day.

Our family of 4 stayed here for 3 nights in April, based on the recommendations on Tripadvisor. The hotel is small and on a tiny street in the old quarter that is not even fully paved. We booked the interconnecting rooms, which for families are great as you have a king bed room connected internally to a room with 2 twin beds, so 2 bathrooms and 2 laptops. These family rooms are not large and the windows are tiny with no view, but that was fine for us. Everything in the rooms is new and clean, beds very comfortable. Breakfast buffet was the highlight of every day for our kids. And as other reviews have noted, service from the staff was excellent including booking our train tickets and taxies, etc. The only glitch was the morning we arrived back from Sapa at 4:30 am and were left in the hotel restaurant for over an hour with no food, drinks or access to our checked luggage or showers until 6 am (apparently there is no 24-hour concierge although there were some staff asleep in the lobby). Another thing to be aware of is the location and surrounding traffic chaos - great for nightlife but daunting to walk outside with children.

We stayed for a second time at the Essence at the end of April and it was just as great the second time around. The staff and service is absolutely superb. We've not had better service anywhere including 5 star hotels. The rooms are medium sized but have everything you could want: great sheets and pillows, a laptop computer with free Internet and free Wi-Fi, a great bathroom with all the amenities. The breakfast buffet is excellent and the one dinner we had at the hotel was also very good. And the location is right in the center of nearly everything. Perfect

After the craziness around it is a little sanctuary. The staff so helpful the service and food in the restaurant was good. Smaller then imagined but very clean and welcoming. Great position, funny to hear a rooster in the morning and afternoon amongst the sounds of the motorbikes. The suite was so very well worth the extra ( what little it was) value for money. If ever in Hanoi again this would be my choice. We stayed also in the Movenpick Hotel for a night but a much bigger hotel although nice this little gem did it for me.

Room Tip: The suite is a must
