Owner description: The Long Bien bridge across the Red River connects Hanoi with the main port of Haiphong. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the bridge sustained significant damage during the Vietnam War. Only half of the bridge retains its original shape, but a rebuilding project supported by the French government is currently in progress to restore the bridge to its original appearance.

“A Bridge Not Too Far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

You can walk this one if you can find the access which happens to be up by the train station on the Western end of the bridge. Great walk across the bridge and some very nice views of both city and farmland along the Red River.

“Cycling Chaos”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Interesting bridge used by cyclists to cross the Red River. Great way to view the city but very busy with cyclists!

“Cool rusty bridge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Historic bridge that spans the Red River, built in 1905 by Eiffel, the same engineer who made the Eiffel Tower, connects two halves of the city. Lovers take to the bridge to have their photo taken.

“An old bridge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

It's an old bridge with motorcycles whizzing by. Most people walk across it and turn back. I walked the whole way, reached the other end, walked around and came back on the other side. If you like aimless walking, you'll like this.
