“comfortable boutique hotel well located for tourists”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

Very comfortable and large (king) bed.

The furnitureis in keeping with the region and helps create a warm ambience.

Its only a short 5 minute walk to lake and 10 minute walk to markets although there is plenty of lane way shopping in the adjacent streets.

Very friendly staff.

This seems to be another To kin Travel special!

I copy other reviewers comments. We are travelling around Vietnam as a holiday so using mid-high range hotels and have generally been lucky. This hotels basics are better than or equal to good western hotels. It appears new, the delux room we were in for around $75 through Tonkin travel is large with lovely furniture, fixings, bed and linen. The bathroom spacious with large shower and a bath.

Location is excellent not being in the back packer area (app 10 mins walk if you want to go) but between silk street and the cathedral, both good areas for shopping/eating.

Staff are not the all singing all dancing I've read of at other hotels but were fine. Spoke ok English, very friendly etc.

If you want travel or trip advice I would strongly advise contacting Tonkin Travel. I dealt with Ms. Huong over the month leading up to the trip and she made very good suggestions including this hotel. Same prices as we can get on things except internal flights for some reason but linked it all together. You pay a deposit in advance then pay rest later. As we were staying here she came and met us to check all ok (and probably also looking for a tip but she had certainly been worth one)

While staying there the local highlights were:
Massage - orchid spa. Turn right out of hotel and walk 200m. Has flashing sign outside. In short excellent, I will leave a review there if I find it. Very good prices too! Check it out.
Chilling/ smoothies/coffee- cafe with roof terrace to right as you look at the cathedral. Has quirky handicraft shop downstairs.
Walking - follow the lonely planet walking tour to see different streets. Also See the temple on the lake. French qtr is high end shops Cartier etc was a bit of a surprise.

Back to the hotel this is a great little find and can strongly recommend it.

This is one of great 3 star hotel which is located on Hang Trong street, about 7 minutes walk to Hoan Kiem lake. The hotel room was really beautiful with all the nice wooden furniture (Huong timber) and they also have nice and comfortable bed with great amenities. The Deluxe and suite room are spacious and quite reasonable price. The only negative thing about this hotel I thought is about the staffs, I think they need more staffs working at this hotel to accommodate tourists needs and their dining room is not big enough for big tour group if people want to have breakfast at the same time. It's still be a great hotel any way for your stay in hanoi for couple of nights, the location is unbeatable.
Enjoy your time in Hanoi.

Room Tip: Get a Deluxe room at the back with great city view.

Our Tonkin Travel organizer booked us into the Golden Rice Hotel in the Old Quarter, Hanoi and we just loved it from the start. We were warmly welcomed (very early in the morning!) with a cup of refreshing tea and even though we had a short wait to get into our rooms we felt relaxed because the staff were pleasant. Our spotlessly clean room was very generous in size (we were in a deluxe) and we had water and fruit delivered daily. We enjoyed the buffet breakfasts (included in the tariff and with lots of choices including scrambled eggs and omelettes!) and also dined at night in the restaurant twice, as the meals were so good. We really liked the Vietnamese coffee too but other coffee was also available. I asked for poached eggs one morning and two soft boiled eggs, still in shells, were brought to our table, much to our amusement but they were beautifully cooked!
We were very happy with our first stay in Vietnam and recommend this hotel to others. It was handy to lots of shopping, the ANZ ATM, the lake and it didn't take us long to find our way around this part of Hanoi.

We stayed here for two nights at the begining of our trip to Vietnam and found it to be a lovely hotel. Our room was large, comfortable and very clean, and the fresh fruit and bottled water was very welcome upon our arrival. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was OK but the coffee wasn't great. I'd recommend this hotel.

We originally had booked another hotel, and were really disappointed with it, so we walked around and originally had looked at a hotel across the street based on a recommendation, but it was full so we crossed over to see what their pricing and rooms were like. We really loved the location, the rooms were very nice - VERY spacious, brand new, quiet, luxurious bathrooms (shower and tub, sparkling clean tile). The price was a little high, and the price quoted was higher than what we found on agoda, but when we pointed it out, they adjusted the price.

They sent their bellhop to our other hotel to pick up our luggage, which while a bit awkward on checkout at the other hotel, was a nice service.

We didn't eat much of the buffet, we only had a couple minutes one morning, it didn't look like anything special, but it was fine.

Anyway, would recommend - much better than so many hotels in that same location and still a reasonable price (I think we paid in the $70/night range).

A few small things could have been better - such as there was no extra TP or wash cloths in the room, and I don't think they provided a complete set of soap/shampoo/conditioner in the shower - I remember we used some of our own stuff. Little things that I would have expected, but wouldn't have changed my decision to stay there.

Oh, they also loan umbrellas!
