“Very Budget accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

This Hotel is mostly frequented by BackPackers. The accommodation is very basic but comfortable. Badly needs upgrading and refurbishment. Four levels with narrow stairs to climb. Centrally located in the Cathedral Square, with easy access to shops, markets and restaurants. Very friendly operator. Tours can be booked at the Hotel. Acceptable for one or two nights stay. Very basic breakfast served in not very hygienic conditions.

Room Tip: ask for rooms on level 1 or 2 to avoid climbing narrow stairs

Don't be fooled by the refurbishment! It's strictly superficial. The furnishings ate cheap and nasty, the bed is very firm (and I rarely care about this!) and the windows don't lock. The door barely locks! They just painted over the old mould/moisture and it's back.

But it's cheap and staff are quite nice, there's free wifi and they're willing to negotiate on price. Breakfast is only for true budget travellers who don't care what standard the free food!

So overall if you just have a couple of nights in Hanoi it's satisfactory. For longer stays keep looking!

This was definitely the nicest hotel we stayed in Vietnam, with one of the cheapest prices. Really nice room with a decent sized bathroom which is unusual. Staff were awesome, really helpful and free Wifi and computers.

Arrived around 6 in the morning following the trusty lonely planet book only to find out that the hotel we were going to stay in had escalated there prices!!!
But we walked around the corner and through the doors............
Greeted by a cheerful young man, who offered us a room well within our budget. Free Wi-fi throughout the hotel and in all the rooms.
We booked our Halong Bay trip from the hotel at a cheaper price then others who joined us on the boat, and on our return they had a room waiting for us.
Perfect location 5 minutes walk from the lake, and central old district.
All staff really helpful and welcoming, real family run establisment, they were so sociable in fact that we had a BBQ the whole family one night.
Rooms are a very good standard for the money, with hot water, a/c, wi-fi & tv.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We found this hotel by chance when looking for cheap backpacker accommodation in the area. The hotel was reasonably priced and offered free internet in reception which was very useful. The staff were also very helpful at the front desk. We organised a tour of Halong Bay from there which was absolutely fantastic for the price, and much better than any other offers we had been able to find elsewhere.

The staff were very friendly and when we came back one evening, they offered us a drink and we sat in the reception socialising with them for a while which was really nice.

Would recommend this hotel as a great little place to stay whilst in Hanoi if you are on a budget.

I wish I had read these reviews before staying here. I would give it no stars if possible.

Basically we shared a 3 bed room between 4 girls with one of us sleeping on a foam mattress the floor, which would have been acceptable if the room hadn't flooded due to rain overnight. We told the hostel staff, who shrugged and said they'd fix it later. When we returned later the room was again flooded, we said that it was unacceptable for someone to sleep on a soaking mattress. They basically didn't care so we decided to leave. We found another MUCH NICER hostel for the same price, but when we tried to get our passports to leave, they said we had to pay now. I went to get the money out of my purse, and the manager grabbed $50 off me and said we had to pay for 2 nights as check out was noon. We explained that we shouldn't have to pay for 2 nights as we couldn't sleep in a flooded room, he then accused us of opening the windows and letting the rain in (we hadn't touched them) and then said he was eating his dinner and that the conversation was over. We asked to speak to someone in charge, and he was very smug and said he owned the hostel. We said we were going to phone the police to get our money back - he said he welcomed the police!

We gave up and went to get our stuff, and when we went downstairs he had a TASER!! and refused to let us past until he had checked we hadn't stolen towels or the room key (which we hadn't). I tried to get past him and he grabbed me roughly, luckily I got past and then his other staff member tried to grab me as well. Thankfully, they were pathetic weak little men and I was able to get outside. I then went to the hostel nearby and asked them to phone the police. They said that the police wouldn't do anything and there was no point. Luckily, my other friends were able to get out once he had checked the room and was satisfied.

So basically, this man can get away with this as long as people continue to stay at this hostel. Don't stay there. Don't give them any money. I hope this awful place closes down so that unknowing travelers like ourselves do not have the misfortune of staying here.

Awful hostel, we were appallingly treated. Started off ok, agreed a room rate although the room was quite cramped. Breakfast was ok. The fun began on the second morning when we saw a rat in our room. We told staff, who at first laughed and did nothing. Two cleaners then went in and again did nothing. We were left to remove our bags and were shouted at by staff who tried to tell us it was our fault for eating some food in the room!! When we we told them we were leaving and not prepared to stay longer, they became quite aggressive and tried to renege on our previously agreed room rate. Had we received even an apology, we may not have felt so let down by this hostel but the way we were treated was inexcusable and we feel it our duty to inform other people before they make the mistake of staying in this rat-infested hovel. BEWARE
