“Excellent Hotel with modern design”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

This is one of the most modern hotel I have ever stayed. The design is very impressive. The room is very large, espec.ially the bathroom. This is value to price whenever you are a A+ members. Most recommended for whom will travel Hanoi.

Stayed here upon arriving in Vietnam and was pleased we'd chosen to stay at the MGallery. Hanoi was a bit of a shock to the senses, and this hotel was a great retreat from the heat and the noise especially when trying to get over our jetlag. We dined in the restaurant and had cocktails in the main bar and found everything to be excellent. The addition of a pool was also an attraction for us in booking this hotel. It is an indoor pool, but part of it has a glass roof so you feel like you are outside but protected from the elements. It also has a lovely terrace to sit and order a drink with views over the nearby streets.

My only dissapointment was that our room didn't have one of those lovely freestanding baths I'd seen in the pictures (it didn't actually have a bath at all) so I'm not sure which room types have baths. But I didn't raise this with reception as everything else about our stay was great. We booked a grand deluxe room - and the bed was really comfortable - we didn't want to get out! Yes, the rooms are a little dark if your window faces the attrium, but we really loved the decor and would stay here again next time we are in Hanoi for sure.

This hotel came recommended as a cheaper, younger alternative to the Metropole across the street but after 4 nights we wished we'd spent the extra money and stayed at the Sofitel. The room was large and well appointed but being inward facing was dark and had no view. The staff however were good and the concierge was excellent when organising our day trips. If Accor billed this as a 4* I think it would be a fairer refection particularly since the pool was a real let down, but there is no doubt that it does have a great location in the best part of town.

A boutique-type hotel near the famous Opera House, this is a delight to the eyes. The atrium café is beautiful and service flawless. The rooms are a nice size with very pretty bathroom floors and fabulous showers. Not too crazy about the lobby but the bar is fun. Great location with great staff working here who spent extra time making sure we got the private tours we wanted and even did some research to make each request more complete.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the street if you like to watch the happenings. Rooms facing the atrium are quiet...

Great hotel with classic decoration, lovely rooms, and big comfy beds. The suites are especially nice.

Only complaint is that many rooms face the noisy street, and while the windows are good, they are not good enough to keep out the noise of Hanoi in the morning. I suspect this is true of most downtown hotels.

It's difficult to rate this hotel as some aspects are good and others aren't plus we stayed in an amazing hotel prior as part of our Asia trip - anyhow, here we go: I chose this hotel mainly because it was recommended in Conde Nast Traveller as a contemporary option in Hanoi.

On the website it also looked quite cool. However, the design is bordering to tacky (please remove the dreadful display cabinet in the lobby!!). The room was dark, facing a courtyard which had the benefit of the room being quiet. However, you need to use lighter colours if you haven't got natural daylight... The bed was strangely high up, but overall comfortable. The room itself felt slightly damp though.

I had a couple of meals in the restaurant and they all were just okay, definitely go out for dinner...the breakfast buffet was very good and they offer an additional a la carte choice.

Most disappointing was the pool, not nice, busy and above a street, so not very inviting to relax.

The location was the best part as you can explore the city easily from there by foot. The staff were also very friendly and helpful arranging tours and generally assisting with any queries.

We had dinner twice at their sister property the Sofitel Metropole and if you want a 5 star hotel in Hanoi, that's the place to stay.

Stayed here for 3 nights in the middle of April 2013, at the start of our Vietnam tour; a wonderful and cheerful gem of a place which I would whole-heartedly recommend; staff was professional and accommodating (kindly allowed us to deposit our baggage following our return from Sapa and use the hotel facilities until the time for our departure flight to Danang); rooms (Grand DLX) - spacious and very well appointed; though be aware that Grand DLX rooms have no outside views as they are facing inwards into the Hotel's atrium; this, however, did nothing do damage our enjoyment of this beautiful room; food - varied and tasty; couldn't understand complaints we've read before our trip regarding the limited variety of food at breakfast: we could find no fault in either the variety of food on offer, or its quality; also had 1 late supper and 2 lunches here - great Vietnamese dishes, which we were served in the Hotel's cheeky atrium, set complete with colorful water fountains and a projection slide-show of pictures of Hanoi in the 19th and early 20th century - both fulfilling and educating; location - 5 minutes walking distance from the Opera Building (do try the pleasant Cafe nestled just between the Hilton Opera Hanoi and the Opera building and watch some posh Vietnamese sipping a drink); 5 minutes walking distance from the Metropole (in which we had 2 dinners: one at the French Beaulieu and the other at the authentic Spices Garden; both excellent, although I personally preferred the latter); 15 minutes walking distance to the old French quarter; I should mention we stayed at the Hilton Hanoi Opera while in Hanoi about ~12 years ago and - although our room at the Hilton faced the Opera building and was (in this respect only) more interesting - I would still prefer the Grand DLX at the Hotel de l'Opera; one final note, the Hotel de l'Opera is a relatively new hotel, and the rooms and facilities certainly has the added benefit of being shiny new; all in all: a wonderful surprise at the start of our tour; for the benefit of those planning a trip to Vietnam, following is a chronological itemization of our Vietnam itinerary; this itinerary is relatively relaxed and IMO puts the right emphasis on the right places; however, one could add, or subtract, a day, according to one's preferences; also feel free to read my TripAdvisor reviews of the rest of the hotels we stayed in as they are published; so here goes: 3 nights in Hanoi (Hotel de l'Opera Hanoi), enabling ample time to experience the city as well as a 1-day tour of Nin-Binh (a.k.a "Dry Ha-Long"); 1 night Ha-Long Bay cruise (Ha-Long Paradise Cruises - Paradise Luxury 4 - Balcony Cabin); 1 night Victoria Cabin Night Train; 2 nights in Sapa (Victoria Sapa Resort & Spa); 1 night Victoria Cabin Night Train (returning to Hanoi); Fly Hanoi - Danang; 3 nights in Hoi-An (The Nam Hai), which were just enough for experiencing Hoi-An, as well as for a half-day tour of My-Son; 3 nights in Hue (Banyan Tree Lang Co); Fly Danang - HCMC; 1 night in HCMC (Renaissance Riverside Hotel); as mentioned above, since we've been to Vietnam about 12yrs ago, and did the standard HCMC round (cu-chi; Mekong delta etc.), we allocated HCMC only 1 night this time - but you could stay longer; personally, though, I liked Hanoi (and Hoi-An) much much better.

Room Tip: Grand DLX rooms have no outside views as they are facing inwards into the Hotel's atrium; this...
