“Oasis of calm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

We stayed two nights in this hotel in a room overlooking the inner atrium. The room was big, luxurious with a massive bed and the softest pillows I have ever experienced. WiFi worked a treat - fast and easy to connect. The staff were faultless; the price of drinks at the bar extremely low for a hotel of this type, and the dinner and breakfast both excellent with a wide range of choice. The hotel location is a perfect base for sightseeing by walking, being a stonesthrow from the Opera House and five minutes walk to the lovely lake and the Old Quarter. Although we didn't walk, I would guess that it would take about 30 minutes to walk to the diplomatic area around Ho Chi Minh's tomb. What a lovely place to escape from the hectic pace of Hanoi traffic!

Room: pretty funky and interesting; what people have said here about the wacky iridescent tile in the bathroom is true, and made me laugh. Bed is super comfy, fixtures and furniture and bath products were great. Had a view of the opera house, which was lovely, but since I don't spend too much time staring out the window of my room, didn't much matter. Prepare yourself for the Commie propaganda from the loudspeakers at 6 a.m. by investing in some good quality earplugs. You'll thank me. US plugs work without converters. Blowdryers uniformly suck throughout Asia; if you're not used to that, you might not like it.

Food: terrific breakfast. Had a croque madame and Vietnamese coffee every day, and I MISS it. Lobby bar is fairly quiet and cozy; not hard to escape noisy people if you like. Enjoyed journaling & emailing on my iPad at the bar during happy hour; staff was attentive but not overbearing.

Location: I think this hotel is in the perfect location. If you turn right out of the hotel and then right again at the opera house, there are about 10 amazing restaurants. If you turn left out of the hotel and then right at the lake, you're at the Old Quarter in 5 minutes. If you like to walk, it's a great spot. I would NOT recommend staying up north by the big lake (of which I can't remember the name - West Lake?) Way too much of a schlep, and holy stinky traffic.

Staff: extremely friendly. Concierge was particularly helpful arranging an airport pickup from my other hotel in my next destination (Danang), and reception is happy to do things like change money for you. My only suggestion: I'd like to see maps for the guests. There was a (used and marked-up) map in my desk drawer, and when I asked downstairs for another one, it was a bit of a struggle to find it.

All in all I was so very happy with my choice. As I walked around Hanoi and saw all the other places I was considering, I became more and more glad I picked this one. As a solo female traveler I felt safe and well cared for.

Room Tip: Brace yourself for the loudspeaker announcements outside in the morning. Say what you will about th...

The interior might be little bit overdone .. particularly for Hanoi. However, you are right here, if you like the contrast between the City and your accommodation.
Great breakfast! The choice on the buffet is assessable, but definitely good.

Hotel has a good location, walking distance to Old Quarter. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are new and nicely decorated. Beds and pillows very comfortable. Light in the room could be more, reading lamp ok. Breakfast good value.

The hotel seemed quite new and was very, very clean. Rooms spacious and funky but not over the top. Great vietnamese food in the courtyard restaurant and breakfast buffet also good. We had team meeting there for a few days and they looked after us very well.

Room Tip: Be wary low floors on the streetside have lots (and lots) of road noise (like every hotel in Hanoi...

This is a modern hotel in the French Quarter of Hanoi near to the western lake. Facilities and service standards are very good and the food is excellent though expensive by local standards,

The interior decoration of the rooms can be best described as a little outrageous, definitely a triumph of form over function, though the rooms were reasonably comfortable the bed was very high.

Best to get a room as high up the hotel as possible as traffic noise can be a problem.

If you are staying in Hanoi and you want to be within walking distance of a lot of the major attractions then you could do a lot worse than this hotel.
