The guy on reception was more than helpful and friendy....and gave us a big double room for $22 ( although as most places the double is a twin pushed together). As it is in an alley, the alley is quieter than the main roads. They are VERY helpful..and will book tours for you as they have a good guide who comes and explains stuff to you. Obviously they are trying to sell you tours, and we thought it was helpful to get someone to come to us rather than hike around all the tour operators fishing for deals. The Airport had offered a good boat for $85 per person for 2 days 1 night..but we waited for the city. I don't know if the airport would have done the same thing...but sucked us in with luxury boat photo albums......THEN said there was no availability. So we were hurried to accept another boat with no brochre as we needed to go the next day. For $85 per person, but no where near as luxurios as the brouchures we'd see. However, it was a fantastic trip, despite the weather. The group was such a fun mixed group! The second day on the boat at this time of year is cruising around...waiting in the cold, but hey, not a bad place to wait to go home.
HINTS: The food is sold to you as seafood etc etc...it's OK, just that..more vegetables...but NO drinks are included. Not even drinking water for tooth brushing. Fine. Take your own. Drinks are expensiv e on ALL boats. PLUS.. you can get a bottle of dalat wine for VNG65 in Hanoi, BUT it is VND300 on the boats!!!The charge is $10 for corkage. We were not warned of this...so blagged our way out of it. We didnt drink our 'boat bought' wine in the restaurant are of course.
There are ladies that row around in a little boat to most ships and around tourist caves..they will..if you are firm, sell the wine for land prices. We agreed to 100VNG per bottle that they obviosly have to open for you ( or the boat will charge $10 corkage!!) They put it in a fishing net up onto the walkway from the 'surprise' cave.........soooo worth seeing!!!!!
I would like to add, that despite our tour guide..originally having a bit of a strange accent, sounding like a Vietnamese Borat....and seeming a little weird...was pretty hilarious himself! Michael his name....Hoai in Vietmese. But Michael Jackson for us!
We had a boozy karaoke night (obviously down to our consumption), but hey entertained us too. I tried to get them off the karakoe machine a few times!
HAVE FUN! For the money it is worth it! x

Regarding to your feedback, I would love to say thanks to all of emotion as also your impressions about our hotel and service.
Based on your request as arrival time we tried our best to provided you all the information with the interesting price ( 15% off for the travel package to Halong Bay ).At the last minute you made your decision then we book the boat trip for you combined with an explained is DBL ROOM was full.
I do agree with you that to buy any beverage on Boat is always costs more than on the harbor due to they have to move quite difficulty. Beverage/ Wine is not included at any tour due the guest demand is very different. Surcharge for bringing the Wine on Boat is compulsory such as every boat on Halong Bay ( Service charge). For next time come back to Hanoi, I will offer you a bottle of Wine and I will pour it with my enthusiasm!
With Best regard and See you soon!
