“Wish all cities had something like this...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

I've travelled quite a bit and I recommend this unreservedly. Not only were they able to show Hanoi to the three of us through the eyes of a local, they also provided us with a view of the every day life and challenges of someone in Hanoi. In the end they refused to take money from us. Our only regret is that we did not book the full day tour - the time finished quickly!

“The best city tour ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013 via mobile

Though we found out about HanoiKids a bit too late, they answered immediately and offered to take us on a dinner tour - on the very day of our arrival, no less!
We were extra fortunate in that we had not one but two fantastic guides: Lien and Bach. They are cheerful kids and speak excellent English. The food they took us to eat was just so yummy; we wouldn't ever have found out about all of it if it weren't for HanoiKids. The whole time we had interesting conversations with them about absolutely everything. They're really knowledgeable about their city and passionate about what they do - even when that involves taking tourists out till late night and then returning home to answer new tour booking requests!
After two special eateries and piles of local delicacies we hit Beer Corner and promptly bumped into some of Bach's recent guests from NY, with whom we had a really nice time sipping beer and eating papaya salad with beef jerky from the legendary roaming street vendor with the bike and scissors!
Lien and Bach insisted on walking us all the way back to the Somerset Grand...this is how much pride they take in doing their job!
We are sure that we will try to engage HanoiKids' services again during our next visit to this bustling city.
Lien and Bach, you rock!

“Don't miss out on this great tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

We found this tour through TripAdvisor and figured with all the amazing reviews we better give it a shot while in Hanoi. The process to book it online was very easy and they were very responsive to our request, getting back to us within a day. Shortly before our departure we emailed to reconfirm and at that stage they provided us with our tour guide's name and contact information in case there were any issues meeting up.

Ling met us at our hotel promptly at the time we were supposed to meet all ready to go. We didn't really know where we wanted to go so we just kind of left it up to her but you can make your own itinerary if you so choose. The first thing she did was taught us how to cross the street and thank goodness for that, it's total mayhem in the streets! I seriously think we would have had issues had we been on our own. It's a bit difficult at first getting used to the concept of just walking into oncoming traffic to cross the road but you will quickly learn if you don't do that you will never get across! Once we nailed that concept, she took us to the Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Presidential Palace, Ngoc Son Pagoda and some other places. At each location we were surprised at how knowledgeable she was and also very impressed with her command of the English language.

She organized for us to eat lunch at a lovely vegetarian restaurant, which was great since I am a vegetarian. Each step of the way we decided together where we would head next and she would organize a cab for us if needed. At the end she took us to try moon cakes and have egg coffees and egg beers (quite enjoyable!) at a cute little coffee shop tucked away in a back alley which we never would have found on our own. She was very sweet and told us about her family and some Vietnamese traditions and things that we asked her about.

The whole program is a really great concept that is mutually beneficial for both parties. The tourist gets a great tour around the city and the kids get to practice their English skills.

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone going to Hanoi. I mean it's free and amazing, why WOULDN'T you?

Thanks Ling!

Ann and Bre :-)

“Stevie and Janey best tour guides around.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013 via mobile

We were lucky enough to have 2 guides: Stevie on his first tour and Janey his supervisor. They were perfectly on time and very friendly. We were able to tailor make our trip according to our interests. We had two kids with us and they were understanding of their needs. They were very knowledgeable about all of our destinations. They took us for some great street food and we really enjoyed the experience. It's good to see that there is so much training and difficult selection or the guides and it's free!! Highly reccomend and thanks to Janey an Stevie!

“Hanoi, Pho, Egg Coffee and a Good Time.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Didn't have any expectations when we engaged their services. 2 university students met the 3 of us and took us around Hanoi's attractions. Only managed to visit the Maison Centrale prison (Hanoi Hilton) and Museum of Ethnology but it was definitely fun. Spent a good time with our guides over lunch and coffee talking and got to know them a little better. The best stories are not about the attractions, but about their lives. If their goals were to bridge the cultural divide then Hanoikids did it for me.
Thanks Anh and Phung (Mim)!
