“Should be called 'Hidden Gem'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2010

What a fantastic hotel. it's located in Au Trieu, a one car width lane off a main street in the old quarter and by Hanoi old quarter standards, it's quiet. Yet it's close to everything and Au Trieu is a charming little lane, very pretty at night. I had a room on the fifth floor for two weeks and it was first class. The fit-out and quality of furnishings was way above what you'd expect for a hotel at this price. Everything works and is good quality, nothing is broken, and there are thoughtful touches like lamps with dimmers so that you can adjust the lighting to suit yourself. The bed was really comfortable, the bathroom spotless and modern, the room was spacious, the free wi-fi was fast and 100% reliable and free bottled water was supplied.
The location and physical attributes are great and the service is of the same standard. The reception team all speak excellent English and nothing is too much trouble for them. They really made me feel at home with their friendly professionalism. They are very service oriented and can arrange tours, translate from Vietnamese, organise personal things like clothing alterations, arrange transport and cheerfully and promptly deal with anything that guests require. They are unfailingly cheerful and as I stayed for two weeks, I discovered that they are a lot of fun.
I stayed in four old quarter hotels over a three week period, (I arrived during the 1000 year celebrations and rooms were scarce) and this was easily the best for location, amenities, service and value.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone. I paid $35 a night and the quality of amenities and service are in my experience, unmatched at this price. Tremendous value without any sense of compromising on quality. Very highly recommended.

We stayed at the Hidden Charm for about five days in Oct 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was spotless, with a huge bed (not too great a view, but well protected from street noise) and internet access. The best part, though, was the staff -- they are all exceptionally friendly and attentive, and will go out of their way to make your time in Hanoi (and Vietnam, for that matter) a pleasant one. A special thank you to Jenny, who helped us find out information about all sorts of day trips around northern vietnam and arranged our train tickets to Sapa and back. (And also, thanks to Dang and Thinh for letting us hang out in the restaurant when our train dropped us off at 5 in the morning!) All in all, a great experience.

A lot of thought has gone into making Hidden Charm comfortable. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are well appointed and clean. The hotel is well located near the lake but not too noisy as it's on a side road.
The website is awful but don't be put off -the hotel is nicer than the amateur site would suggest and reception replied to my email promptly. The only criticisms I would make are that the duvets are too small, and I would have preferred a normal shower to a full on spa bath but hey I guess some people like that kind of thing.

Beautiful little hotel with gorgeous wood floors in the rooms, spacious, steam shower enclosure, flat screen tv. Good wifi, lovely breakfast (western) , refrig. Cost $35 while I was there at the busiest time of the year.
King bed with lovely linnens. Couldn't be happier! Wonderful crew at the desk and good bookings of trips too!

We really enjoyed staying in the Hidden Charm. The hotel is clean and modern and in a good location for the old quarter (not far from the lake). The rooms were of a good size, and contained good facilities. The staff were excellent, from reception, sales, night staff and the breakfast team. If we return to Hanoi in the future, we will return to the Hidden Charm. Thanks to the team!

We stayed at Hidden Charm for 4 nights in the middle of September. We had booked a Regal Elegance room but it was at the front of the hotel and rather noisy. We asked to be moved and were moved to a room at the back of the hotel which was much quieter. The hotel is in a narrow lane at the back of the cathedral (turn right out of the hotel to go past the cathedral and find the lake). We enjoyed staying here and would recommend it but they let themselves down by lack of attention to detail - no tissues in the room, no tea bags, broken lights, cool shower water in the evening, thin towels. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was OK but I was rather sick of omelettes after 4 days! It's reasonable value though.

Very comfy hotel in the middle of hanoi. Staff was very friendly and helpful at all the time. The cozy rooms and excellent location come at a fair price.
