“Nice, clean hotel with helpful service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2010

We stayed there for 2 nights, with a trip to Sa Pa in between. The hotel staff were very helpful into loaning us a room for an hour to freshen up before our long overnight train ride to sa pa, and Sarah had no hesitation in waiving the charges for one transport vehicle (we originally booked 1 vehicle but ended up on 2 not out of choice) when she realised it was a mistake on the driver's end.

Luke also helped us book our train tickets to Sa Pa which we appreciated very much.

Hotel itself was clean and well located.

Hotel was ok, staff reasonably friendly, breakfast was mediocre- attepts at aussie grub which is always a mistake in Asia and vietnamese coffee was just a weak american style one. beds were clean but the undersheet was put on top of the nice linen so you had to re-make your bed each night. Tonnes of bugs in the bathroom but not too offensive. noisy. no idea about mini bar prices and only 3 drinks in it. ok for the price but if you spend just a little more you get alot more for your extra few dollars. it was a great location though and pick- ups were good and not too overpriced.

We stayed here for 4 nights and I couldn't recommend it enough. The service we experienced was amazing from everyone and a special mention has to go to Krang who helped us out with anything we needed to know about Hanoi (he even rang our next hotel in Ho Chi Minh to confirm our booking for us) and made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door! We found Hanoi to be a bit of a culture shock (even after arriving from Bangkok) and so it was lovely to have such a welcoming place to come back to each evening after exploring the city every day. The room was immaculate and huge - the sort of thing you would expect from a much more expensive hotel (we were backpacking around SE Asia) and you got a free breakfast everyday. The location was great, right in the middle of the old quarter and you could easily walk to the main attractions. There was free internet for everyone to use and the staff were brilliant about recommending tours - we booked our Halong Bay tour with them and it was fantastic. Hanoi Rendezvous is probably one of or the best hotels we have stayed in on our trip and the service we received was second to none. Thanks Sarah, Luke, Krang and everyone else for making our time in Hanoi as relaxing as it could be in a city as fast paced as Hanoi!

We really enjoyed our stay here. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed the rooms, cafe, location and help we got from the staff.

The rooms are big and clean. The bathrooms are very modern. The hotel seems very cared for. Breakfast is included and is a great start to the day but avoid the pancakes! I think they still need practice making these... but the French toast is yummy.

We booked a Halong Bay tour from there. The tour was great, it was aboard the Hanoi Opera, it was excellent but we discovered that other people had paid a lot less then we had...so maybe shop around when you get there.

That said, that might be hard to do as while the staff are very kind here one must not forget they are running a business and were really eager for us to book with them. Sometimes it came across as pushy but nothing threatening, so no real reason to worry! Just stick to your plans if you are confident with what you are doing.

However we found their tour to be lots of fun and of very high standard. The guides they used were excellent. They spoke perfect English and were really friendly and professional.

Would definitely stay here again and would probably use their tours again as it is quite handy to book with the place you are staying.

We arrived at 4.30 in the morning and were welcomed by the night staff who were expecting us. From that moment we felt at home. They could not do too much. Later that morning they booked trips for us to SaPa and Ha Long Bay which were great. They shepherded us to the station and met us again at 4h30 on our return from SaPa, which was so reassuring and helpful. They and their staff could not be more friendly and approachable. The location was ideal for central Hanoi with everything walkable. We would stay there again without hesitation.

We stayed at the Rendezvous on 3 separate occasions while we toured Hanoi, Halong Bay and Sapa. We had booked this hotel based on the great reviews on Tripadvisor and other online sites. The email communication we had with Luke, one of the Australian managers was wonderful after we had booked online. He was a wealth of knowledge and provided information without being pushy. For that reason we also booked our Halong Bay trip through the hotel.

We arrived in our pre-organised car from the airport. The car we had sent was great, the driver friendly and we felt the $15 a decent price especially when you read about all the hotel scams in Hanoi. Be aware though that you can get back to the airport for less than $10 which is worth bearing in mind.

Check-in was a little messy. They had a number of guests arrive at the same time from the airport and not all the rooms were quite ready. That said, we were shown into the hotel cafe and offered a drink while we waited and were all checked in within 30 minutes.

During our wait to check-in we had our first encounter with the Vietnamese owner. We felt that he was very pushy. Within seconds of telling him that we were going to Sapa after Halong Bay and that we were doing it independently we told us we were "wrong" to do it on our own and that we "shouldn't" be going at a weekend and that we should've let him recommend our hotel there. Those kind of words aren't the right ones to use to an Irishwoman who hasn't had enough sleep and in not so many words he was advised to back off.

We avoided the owner as much as we could for the rest of the trip and we can gladly stay that every other member of staff in the place is amazingly friendly and helpful. We had very few issues during our combined stay and any we did have were quickly resolved. The highlight for us was being picked up from the train station after our overnight from Sapa and being permitted to check in at 6am - total thumbs up from us!

The rooms were a great size, beds were uber comfy and the rain showers in the rooms were brilliant. Cleanliness was good and each room had a mini fridge and large plasma TV with a good range of channels.

Breakfast is included and represents good value with a good range of choices and includes a tea or coffee, an orange juice and some fresh fruit in addition to the meal you choose. The cafe where breakfast is served is comfortable, bright and funky too.

All in all we would recommend the Rendezvous to anyone going to Hanoi but would urge you to avoid the owner. If you are reading this, please let Luke and Sarah, your managers, do their job and let your guests come to you for information instead of pushing it on them, we weren't the only guests who felt this way. Be strong about doing things independently if that's how you prefer to do things. That said, the Halong Bay Heritage cruise trip we booked via the hotel was an excellent value tour with less than 14 people and inclusive of sea-kayaking.
