“Excelland value for money and the hotel manager is charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2010

As the title suggests this hotel is a great place to stay , close to the centre of Hanoi and run by a Mr Thung who looks after his guests exceptionally. Rooms are modern , clean and comfortable. Bathroom also modern and well maintained. Only point i would make are that there should be bath mats provided , but this is a minor issue. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and i will would not hesitate to stay here again. Thanks Mr Tung.

Golden Lands Hotel was a wonderful place to stay,we felt safe and secure and it is in a great location.Mr Tung and his staff are more than accomodating for all your needs. We would recommend you book your tour arrangements through Mr Tung as they are of the best quality and we were able to compare this with having booked a tour through another source. The friendliness was immpeccable and our rooms comfortable and very clean. We hope to come again sometime and further explore the treasures of Hanoi!

We stayed there with two teenage girls and had an pleasant stay. The rooms are new decorated and the bathroom with a big Jacuzzi was a higlight for our girls. Also free WIFI and breakfast, simple but good brought to the rooms was a plus.
The hotel is in the heart of old Hanoi close to the lake but still in a quiet street so that you don't feel the heavy traffic as in some other areas.
For the price all in all very good value.

I went for a family trip (of 9 people) to Hanoi from 7-13 October 2010..We stayed two nights at Golden Lane..Overall, I would rate this as a reasonably good..

Location wise
-It's located at one of the lanes of The 36 Streets at Old Quarter, making it really assessible to the shopping area
-There are abt 2-3 convenient stores (opens 24hrs) nearby the hotel..

Room condition
-It's a small boutique hotel with quite limited number of rooms.. and our family occupied 4rooms during our trip..Rooms are spacious and clean and every room does equipped with JACUZZI!!
-Some of the rooms even come with a pc with FREE internet access..However the network was really really SLOW =(
-Free wifi..is definitely another plus point..
-Another thing that impressed us was their really attentive service. The hotel manager is friendly and helpful..
- We had an early check out to catch our morning flight and hence requested *A REALLY EARLY* breakfast at 5.45am.. (though the kitchen operates only from 7am)..He happily accommodated to our request..

Our only *minor* comment about this hotel will be..Most of the toilet doors are old and rundown..Can't close properly..

p/s: According to our tour guide, there are many other BETTER quality hotels around for the same values we paid for =P However,as the hotel arrangement was done by our locally appointed tour agency, this was the best we could get =P

Afterall, i will recommend this hotel to any budget travellers..

We stayed at Golden Land Hotel for 4 nights (3 nights before our Halong Bay adventure and 1 night after)

Airport pickup is free (one way) if you stay for 3 nights. Since we were only staying for 2 nights originally, we payed for airport pickup....however, after we arrived, we added a 3rd night. Mr.Tung then offered us a free taxi to the airport at the end of our trip.

The hotel is located in the old quarter,,,,very close to the French quarter....an ideal location to visit this vibrant area.

The hotel has just one room per floor. We splurged on the suite (glad we did). It was a very large room.
Room features:
- Looks brand new
- Hardwood floors
- 2 large beds
- Sitting area with good chairs
- Free fresh fruit (daily)
- Flat screen TV with good selection of English entertainment channels
- Good Air/Con
- Very sound-proof (Patio doors to outside have a great seal and must be triple glazed)
- Large bathroom
- Water temperature and pressure good
- Never had this in a hotel before....a computer (with LCD screen) in our hotel room.....so convenient for researching and finding stuff

What we liked:
- Quiet, luxurious, clean and great ambience
- Sound proof (can't believe how quiet the rooms are compared to the streets)
- Feels secure and safe
- Personal attentive service by the owner and his staff
- Caring attitude of Mr. Tung - upon check-out, Mr. Tung provided us an information sheet asking us to write a review on Tripadvisor, giving detailed intructions on how to access tripadvisor and write a review - how many hotel owners ask people for feedback in this way?

To improve:
I can summarize the "to improve" issues as mostly minor and seem related to this hotel being almost brand new
- The safe in the closet should be bolted down
- We spent one night in the smaller room on the upper floor and the bathroom door did not latch closed (looks like the new wood perhaps shrunk a bit)....so the latch needs adjustment
- The jacuzzi bath has a gap around the back that will allow water to eventually leak in behind, so that should be sealed with caulking

TIP#1: Mr. Tung is very protective of his guests. If he doesn't mention it, ask him about the taxis.....he will advise you on the only safe ones to take....and when you go out at night if you need a cab he will arrange a safe one.

TIP#2: There are something like (4) breakfast options. Mr. Tung was very willing to change ours to customize it a bit. (we had a fresh baguette with fruit and cheese)

TIP#3: Even though they don't have a restaurant on site, the hotel has full room service (probably from a restaurant close by).....upon arrival, it was late and we were hungry. We ordered pizza, wine and desert from the room service menu and it was great and very reasonably priced.

TIP#4: There is a excellent massage/spa that we went to twice. The brochures are in the lobby (can't remember the name). We had the 60 minute Thai massage and it was awesome.

Conclusion: If you want to avoid the big hotels but you still want a touch of luxury, give Golden Land Hotel a try!
