So we took a tour at Vega Tours to Halong Bay, and we came back around 5. A new hotel opened across the street, right in the Old Quarter, so we went to check it out. We usually look on Trip Advisor or in the Lonely Planet, but since this was new, it wasn't listed anywhere. It looked nice - brand new, nice clean rooms, air conditioning, WiFi in the rooms, flat screen TV with cable. It was $25/night without breakfast (you can get breakfast included for $30) - a special deal since they just opened (though they had a sign printed with that offer so it'll probably be that price for a while). The last full day, we woke up and left for a few hours. When we came back, my expensive make up was no longer in our room. Everything was locked in our bag except the makeup (which was Shiseido - an Asian brand). It's such a strange thing to take! I went down stairs to ask the staff about it, and the once fluent English speakers could no longer speak English. I asked for the manager, and he never came in. They talked to the housekeepers, who said they hadn't seen it. OK, fine, I can't 100% prove anyone has run off with my makeup, but at this point we're feeling pretty unsafe, so we take all of our stuff with us. There were a few other minor issues, like with our laundry, but nothing too bad. I'm downstairs in the lobby and I hear a man talking to the staff - they're trying to overcharge him for the room. Not sure what happened there...
Finally, we go to check out. I still have yet to talk to a manager, and no one seems to really care that stuff has gone missing. We go to pay the bill and their credit card machine doesn't work. So then we have to take our more money (at $10 US fee from the ATM because we didn't intend on paying cash here). Then the guy tries to charge us more than the exchange rate (18,000dong=1 US) that we've been charged the entire 2 weeks in Vietnam. We refused, and they finally agreed just to get us out of the lobby where other customers could see and hear us.
All in all, I would NOT recommend this place. We've stayed at some GREAT places in SE Asia and this is definitely not one of them. If you do stay there, just make sure you lock up everything.

1. All staff was checked for the items. It never happened before. to bad that some people have to make a bad comment when they (could be) loosing there own stuff. None of this was proven. If the staff proven guilty of stealing things, they will be handed over to the police.

2. The overcharge is not true, we have three different kinds of rooms and there all different on price. look at the other customer reviews there all satisfied!
