“Awful service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

Nice hotel with great location but awful service. Whatever you do - do NOT book a suite, accept it as an upgrade or stay at any room from the tenth floor onwards for that matter!

Checking in we were kindly offered an upgrade for 15 dollar extra. As it was only for one night and had to wake up at six the next morning we didn't really see the point and thankfully declined the offer. Eventually they gave us the upgrade free of charge.

After staring at the ceiling for hours, being awake till 3am due to an amazingly nerve wrecking sound that came and went every ten seconds and makes you want to want to scream, we decided to go downstairs and asked if they could stop the sound or if there was another room available free from the noise.

After thorough investigation they came to the conclusion that the noise came from a machine on the rooftop right next to our anything but isolated room. We were relieved to be told there was another room available on the second floor. However, as alert as you can be at 3 am, we first asked if moving rooms would be free of charge, which wasn't. As they put it, it wasn't their fault because fortunately for them, it's not their machine making the noise. We have no clue if it really wasn't their machine but still, this is a great example of awesome service!

You might think this was a single event that only happened the night we were there but unfortunately I don't think the machine had a bad day nor is it planning to be moving to another location anytime soon.

FYI, we didn't take the other room. Before going down we tried putting the air conditioning as loud as it could to counter the sound, because it's easier to get used to a sound that is constant than one that comes and goes, but that didn't work. Putting on BBC World does counter it a bit so although you won't sleep at least you won't be ready to pull out your hair, scream or punch someone.

Stayed here twice whilst visiting Vietrnam.Hotel is located 5 mins walk from both the Old Quarter and the lake.Check in was quick and easy.Hotel itself is Long and narrow and 13 floors high with only the street facing rooms with a view of the busy street. On our first stay had a street view room which was compact with an ensuite.Room tastefully decorated with the most enourmous, comfortable bed.As we did not spend that much time in the room were not too concerned with the compactness. There was a lift upto the 10th Floor with stairs to the remaining floors and the Hotel Spa.Breakfast was the usual mix of fruit, yogurt, pasteries and cooked breakfast[English and Vietnamese] although the Coffee did have an acquired taste!!![Not to our liking].Staff were always pleasant and helpful. The second time we visited was when we flew to Hanoi at the end our stay in Vietnam ,when trying to avoid the typhoon. This time we had a room at the back of the hotel with no view.Again no complaints about the room, which was smart and well furnished. If you are staying in Hanoi, would thoroughly recommend this hotel for both its location and excellent service.Shame about the coffee!

Room Tip: Ask for a street facing room.

Lovely hotel in a great part of Hanoi. Its small and quirky and most of the rooms don't have external windows. Ours looked out onto the corridor. The rooms are small but they are very comfortable and the staff are excellent. Again the restaurant can get very crowded at breakfast time but on the whole this is a great base from which to explore then Old Quarter of Hanoi,

The hotel is located quite in the centre of Hanoi and was in a good location for my business. The experience was excellent right from the check-in to check-out. the staff is professional and efficient yet friendly. Guests are welcomed by a cold glass of green tea and a candy which is very refreshing. The rooms are small but comfortable with a mini-bar and snacks. The restaurant has some delicious main courses but is quite limited. Breakfast is extensive with the usual cereals, eggs to order and the Vietnamese "PHO", with cold cuts, and other Vietnamese breakfast items.
The only issue that I feet uncomfortable about seems to be a normal Vietnamese architectural design, in that the hotel was 11 floors tall with 3 rooms per floor. I could see only 1 staircase as an exit in case of an emergency.
Anyway, at around $ 50 inclusive of breakfast, it's quite a bargain.

Room Tip: Maybe choose rooms on lower floors.....

For my first time in Hanoi, this is a great place to stay. Staff are extremely polite and courteous . Location is great for shopping and safe area to walk around alone or late in the evening. Rooms are very clean and decor is lovely. Breakfast was a nice selection of hot foods, pastries and fruits. I will be staying here again and recommend to everyone.

Me and my friend had the opportunity to stay in both the boutique hotel and the main hotel, both of which were equally clean and very near to Hoan Kiem Lake(boutique hotel was just slightly further, but the walking distance would be considered negligible for most travelers) where the main activities are in Hanoi. Physical amenities aside(not to mention the hotel rooms are maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness, comes equip with lift to facilitate luggage movement), I believe for most travelers, the attitude and experience with the service staff makes a world of a difference. Few days after my booking with the hotel, I received an email from staff checking with me if i needed any airport transfers or tour reservation. The extra mile that the hotel Front Office Manager went made me feel welcome even before I reached Hanoi. Checking into the hotel was a breeze as they already had prepared most of the documents before hand based on the booking information. Staff at Maison D Hanoi is very courteous and most of them can converse in English fairly well, hence communication is definitely not a problem if you do not know Vietnamese. Also, do remember to pick up a few recommendations from the hotel staff there as they can recommend some really good local food and places to go and they also provide a complimentary map of Hanoi town with clear markings of every street, ensuring you will not get lost if you were to walk around on foot. Breakfast was good and I especially loved the coffee there. Be sure not to miss it! I will definitely be back if I were to visit Hanoi again. Love it there! =)

I had the good fortune to stay there twice in one week but in different rooms. The hotel itself is centrally located in the old quarter and no more than a 3 minute walk to Hoan Kiem Lake. The first night we stayed in a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the street. I'm not sure if the windows are double glazed but I could not hear any traffic noise. On our return our room was at the back of the hotel which was slightly larger but again was clean and well appointed. The staff were all very friendly and happy to help out with directions and offer suggestions for points of interest. I would certainly revisit on my next visit to Hanoi.
