I arrived to Hanoi late in the evening with my girlfriend, and even though there was a mix-up with my reservation at the Hanoi Lucky Hotel, we were able to get things figured out and we got a room. The room we had was very spacious, and had a TV (with some basic cable/English news programs), airconditioning, and a computer with internet. I am not sure if all the rooms have the same, it might be worth asking when making a reservation. We paid about $20 each nite for the room and I felt that was a good deal for the hotel. A side note, we did not learn about the switch, just outside of the bathroom, to turn the hot water on until the third day, but that was due to the fact of the arriving late, and not getting the full rundown of the room when we arrived, we were more interested in just going to sleep.
The street the hotel is on is a smaller side street, so there are not many cars going by the hotel during the nite, which is quite nice. The location is quite convenient to the shopping streets/markets, and Old Quarter. Mr. Nguyen, the manager, speaks good English, has a map of the area, and pointed me in the right direction when I was looking for various things, from restaurants to mangoes. One minor issue was getting my laundry done. It took about an extra day for them to finish it, and I am not sure why.
I had a few extra days in Hanoi after my girlfriend went home, and in one of the evenings when I was trying to decide what to eat, the workers at the hotel invited me to eat with them at the hotel. It was such a fun evening, eating some home-cooked Vietnamese food (I cannot remember the names of all the things I ate!), talking with them about life in Hanoi, and having a great time. It was really kind on their part to invite me to their meal, and it was one of the many wonderful memories I have of Vietnam.
Overall, I am very happy with my stay at the Hanoi Lucky Hotel. I would definitely go back. It was what I was expecting for the price, I would recommend it.
