We had a half day stay here after returning from Sapa so our experience is based on this short time. However the staff were very accommodating after we found ourselves in a hotel with no electricity. The got extra towels without asking and were very friendly. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and bigger than I had previously experienced. Beds were comfortable for our 3 hour nap to regroup before travelling home.

Stayed at the Bamboo hotel for one night while passing through Hanoi from Cat Ba to Sapa. The room (201) cost $17 with breakfast and was clean and large, with a balcony facing the street. The street noise was not bad, although it was present. The staff was very helpful and friendly, including helping us negotiate with a cabby who was trying to overcharge us for a ride from the bus station.
There are internet enabled computers in the lobby and Wifi, although the signal strength is not strong on the second floor. It is, however, strong enough to make Skype calls in the lobby (didn't try from the room).
The hotel is located a block from the lake, with a nice westerner-friendly bar across the street and a convenience store next door.
We weren't hassled about booking a tour through the hotel, as we had been warned about in our Lonely Planet.

We stayed here for three nights after staying somewhere else in Hanoi. We found the staff were extremely friendly and helpful especially in the restaurant.
For $15 the room was cosy (Rm 102), with aircon, bathtub and tv and also included breakfast which was of good variety and quality.
You could actually relax in the morning over breakfast, and also dinner which was also really good also.
There are rooms higher up the building that we saw initially but to get there you have to go up a long, narrow staircase which may not be so appealing to some.

WE DIDN'T SEE ANY BED BUGS IN RM 102!!!!!

Everywhere in Hanoi is noisy, however as someone who doesnt particuarly like Hanoi, I found this hotel really relaxing! (and had a chance to breath!)

Came home to find a bedbug scampering across my pillow in Rm 302. Checked out asap.
NB If you bring a bedbug home to your home it'll make your life a misery.

Bamboo Hotel is close to everything and extremely affordable ... however its position above the bustling market makes it quite noisy. Plus there are no curtains on the windows so bring an eye mask as well as earplugs.
Our room was on the top floor and the stairs up there (no lift) are really steep and narrow so be aware of this if you've got lots of luggage.
Our bathroom was also a bit strange as the drain emptied from the bath/shower straight onto the floor ... however we only stayed one night and at US$17 including breakfast, we really can't complain.
