“Good hotel with excellent staff in the Old Quarter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2011

We stayed in the Luxor Suite and were very happy with the room and facilities, especially the balcony (however a light on the balcony would have been great). This is a great hotel for couples or solo travellers who want to be right in the "thick" of the old quarter; the traffic at night is not for the faint hearted, but it is authentic Hanoi experience!

The hotel staff are the standout feature (along with the location). We were travelling with our 11 month old daughter and they went out of their way to ensure we were well provided for; however the noise from the renovation work next to the hotel made it hard for daytime sleeping which an infant needs. To this end, the staff were incredibly accommodating and apologetic for circumstances which were clearly out of their control, and did everything to ensure a good outcome for us.

We would stay here again once our daughter is older or if we are travelling without very young children. Overall a very good hotel for the price.

Room Tip: The Luxor Suite is defintely worth the little bit extra.

There are much better (not so tired!) hotels for less in Hanoi. We chose the Hanoi Luxor because we didn't believe the TA reviews for the top hotels in Hanoi. Most of the hotels were part of the Elegance chain and the reviews seemed over the top, hence we opted for Hanoi Luxor which had more reasonable reviews. Turns out we were wrong. We actually moved to the Essence hotel (part of the Elegance chain) and were completely wowed.

Breakfast at the Hanoi Luxor wasn't good (artificial juices, bad cheese and ham and they need a new toaster). Staff are helpful and friendly. Room needs to be cleaned better; couldn't walk barefoot in the room. Ok to walk to the busy parts of town during the day (at a push) but not at night (too easy to get lost, as we did).

hubby and i stayed here last sept 18-22. it was good enough but we won't be staying here again when we go back to hanoi.

the room where we stayed was ok, amenities were ok, but more than anything else, it's really the attitude of the staff that matters.

yes, they will always smile at you but they don't really address whatever problems or inquiries you give them. the day before our check out, we requested if it would be possible that the airport transpo (paid upon hotel arrival) to arrive earlier than 4 am since we will have an early flight to Hue. the next day, upon checking out, we realized the airport transpo wasn't there and i even have to remind the male receptionist to call a cab for us. the male receptionist was quite arrogant and wouldn't even let me finish whatever i say to him, how sad :(

Room Tip: i'm sorry i can't give a tip since we ourselves won't consider staying here again :(

First you discover that your room has no window (to be fair it's on the website that superior rooms have no window but still!) and then you have to kill cockroaches crawling on the floor after 5min? Seriously!
Pictures on the website have nothing in common with the actual rooms; it might be a display room or something....
We have then been upgraded to a deluxe room (with 1 window) but still had to battle with cockroaches! We had 6 in total in 2 nights. And the staff looked surprised and when we asked for a bugs spray they gave us mosquito repellent....

It is quite cheap indeed and with a good breakfast, and the location in old quarter is convenient though. But that's about it.

Had a fantastic stay at the Hanoi Luxor Hotel, the room was well decorated, clean and of good size. The breakfast was okay, had a good range of food on offer. The location of the hotel was good as well.

The staff at the Luxor was amazing, extremely friendly and helpful. We were given a map with recommended places to go and places to eat, Manager Flo had explained in details on the location of places and the opening/ closing times of attractions etc.

Furthermore, I had booked a weekend at Ha Long Bay (without booking any transport to Ha Long, because of previous reviews on here I was confidence the hotel would have been able to sort something out) and manager Flo was able to arrange a day tour for me and my friend (I think it cost $40), and for the same company to pick us up when we were due to return to Hanoi on the Monday. In addition to that she also arranged a special breakfast for us to take to the airport because of our early flight, as we were too early for the breakfast buffet, as well as the airport transport ($25 I think) because we were sick of getting ripped off by taxi drivers.

Overall a Brilliant hotel which I can't speak highly enough.

We were booked in at the Luxor for 3 nights, ended up staying an extra night as we just loved the excellent service the staff provided aswell as there happy faces day in and day out.
The room was clean and met our requirements, we loved having the balcony looking onto the street. The service from the staff reguarding places to see and places to eat etc was outstanding. Nothing was a problem our days at the Luxor was a memorable stay. Thank you to all the staff and management. Looking forward to seeing you all next year.

Hotel located to the north of the Old Quarter - it is approx a 15min walk to the town centre. Customer service is excellent - staff are more than willing to help you. The rooms are all very clean and spacious - but there are a few windowless rooms, so it is worth paying for an upgrade.
