“Great value, great location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2010

Golden Sunrise is a great value. It has a tremendous location near Hoan Kiem lake. Hang Hanh street is a great slice of Vietnamese urban daily life--street restaurants, mini-markets, etc. The staff was especially helpful to us during our stay, especially when one of our group suffered a severe sprain and needed to recuperate in the room. The restaruant on the top floor offers a great view of the Old Quarter.

A group of my friends and I stayed at the newly opened Golden Sun on 24 Hang Hanh Street in Hanoi. Although they had just moved into this building, the staff was very helpful, kind and considerate. They will help you with anything: directions, getting a taxi, where to shop for certain items, suggest restaurants in your price range, local tourist spots - nothing is too big or too small. One of my friends fell and had to go to a doctor and they were so patient with her. The bellboys helped her up the steps, into and out of taxis, and into the elevator to make sure she got to her room. The staff checked on her to make sure she had enough food in the room since she could not put any weight on her leg for 4 weeks. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Golden Sunrise is perfectly located in the Old Quarter. It's close to everything you could need, right by the lake and on a side street so it's not too noisy.
The staff were wonderfully attentive, even booking us a tour of Halong Bay with no fuss at all.
The only down side was we often came back to our room (with no windows) to a sewage smell. We woke up several times with sewage bubbling from the shower drain! we left the fan going but to no avail. We asked the staff about it and were told "We bought this building with old plumbing, there's nothing we can do."
Location, staff and price wise, it was great. The smell was something that will prevent me staying there again.

Dear Cait Hillson
We deeply thank you for your decision of picking our hotel as your stay in Hanoi and highly appreciate your evaluation on our great location, staff and price.
Besides, we do apology for the unpleasant smell from the plumping system which unluckily occurred in your stay. Just a day after you left, this serious problem had been successfully solved by replacing the entire old one. Since then, we have not heard any guests mentioned about the case.
As you know, our Golden Sunrise has just been opened from the 1st November after 2 months of renovating. So by the time you stayed, there were still some limited unavoidable shortcomings.
With the desire of making the Golden Sun Rise a reliable and comfortable place for any guests, we strongly believe that you will be satisfied with our service in your next visit
Your sincerely,
The management team

For two days I enjoyed the cozy comfort of the Golden Sun Rise Hotel which is located in the heart of the Old Quarter within a five minute walk of the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake. Nearby were the Ngoc Son Temple on Hoan Kiem Lake, the Water Puppet Theatre, St. Jospeph's Cathedral, and the Army Museum. Cyclo drivers happily offered their services if you preferred to ride rather than walk.

The hotel staff was very warm, friendly, cordial and professional. Their English speaking ability was also excellent! They were very quick to suggest local sites to visit and then line up a cab for you if you desired.

The Old Quarter is a treasure trove of merchants' shops with streets named after different categories of goods. The restaurants are too numerous to count. One day I had the pleasure of joining the owner, Ms. Moon, for a traditional Vietnamese lunch at the Old Street Cafe just down the street from the Golden Sun Rise Hotel and other properties she owns such as The Golden Lake View and Madam Moon Guest House, all on Hang Hahn Street.

My room was very spacious with a tremendous view from 7 stories above the ground floor. Two free bottles of water were provided each day, and the mini bar was amply stocked. If you were concerned about your valuables, no worries! The room had a state of the art safe.

Sadly, I was only able to stay at the Golden Sun Rise Hotel for two nights as reservations had already been made on my behalf for the final two nights of my visit at the Guest House of the Ministry of Finance where I was to meet my Masters level students who are pursuing their M A in International Trade and Finance.

When I return to Ha Noi this coming May with my wife, who has only visited southern Vietnam, I will be sure to book the Golden Sun Rise hotel once again. This time, since we plan an extended stay, we wil be sure to make use of their travel service department to arrange tours to both the Huong ( Perfume) Pagoda, Sa Pa, and Ha Long Bay, which has been designated a World Heritage Site.

Thank you for an unforgettable stay, Ms Moon, and the rest of your very talented staff! :)

The location of the hotel in Hang ha street, in old quarters was very good. I was able to walk to the lake in 5 mins. Breakfast was simple but ample. I had massage opposite the hotel. The street has many cafes and I spend evening outside the cafe watching people bustling on the street.
The staff were excellent and I had lovely time in Hanoi.

We had a wonderful stay at Golden Sun Rise hotel. The service was great-the staff were so helpful and gave us plenty of halong bay options.

The rooms were clean and roomy. We had a balcony which was really nice.

Breakfast was really nice too.

The location is wonderful, can't get better, right in the heart of the Old Quarter.

You will not be disappointed if you stay here.

Next time I'm in Hanoi, I'm staying at the golden Sun Rise!

Look no further than this hotel for your next stay in Hanoi. Talk about value for money! $45 gets a NEW, big, clean and light-filled room with a balcony overlooking a wonderfully quaint street, and a big bathroom. Clean towels and bed linens, 2 free bottles of water per day and in room safe, minibar, etc. With door closed room is quiet even during day, as the street it overlooks is a side street with not too much traffic (thus the incessant beeping from the larger streets). Room 602 (or was it 601?) toward front of hotel with balcony...brilliant. Buffet breakfast (very nice) served on top floor, great views. Hang Hanh Street is loaded with cafes at the bend, just the place for returning to after a chaotic day in Hanoi. Once you see this you won't want to leave this street! Compared to Hanoi Elegance hotels, or Thaison, or others in same price category, they can't hold a candle to this one. Even the Hanoi Imperial hotel, on this same street for $75 or more, can't compare to this one! Note that Golden also owns the Golden Lakeview just across the street from the Golden Sunrise, in case you need another spot. I am a very picky traveler who has seen many Hanoi hotels in-person and believe me you won't be sorry you made this decision to stay here. English spoken well by all staff. This is, in my opinion, best kept secret hotel in this city.
