“Outstanding service BUT BEWARE THE SCAM!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

We booked 3 rooms at this hotel on the recommendation of a friend and because of the great location, however, when we arrived, we were told that a family had a v sick baby and couldn't leave as planned, so we were shunted to one of the other (LESSER) 4 hotels in the same street that the Artisan owns. Of the 3 rooms we were placed in in this other hotel, one smelt strongly of urine, one smelt strongly of damp, and one had a bathroom with extremely poor drainage. We were disappointed but we understood the stress this other family must be feeling.

Imagine our disgust then, when we discovered that there were other people moved to the same hotel also because of a single allegedly sick baby....and then we started reading tripadvisor reviews. Oh my goodness...this is a frequent practice to enable the Artisan to fill the rooms of their crummy counterparts. Yes the service at the front desk was fantastic, as was the service in the adjoining cafe but we had to stay 2 of our booked 4 nights in crummy rooms. This is NOT OK - it is dishonest, disrespectful, unscrupulous and dishonest.

Oh...and the kicker? When we returned home, we discovered that our friend who recommended the hotel had also been set aside a couple of months ago for a sick baby....boy was she cheesed off when she realised it was a scam, and that her recommendation looked poor because of our experience.

Its a nice little hotel in a good location.....if you can get your booking honoured!!!

Right from the airport pickup down to the airport drop off the level of service we experienced at this little hotel was some of the best throughout or stay in Asia. What the room lacks in space (small but by no means tiny) and the omissions of a street facing window (the only window opened up into the stairwell) was totally overcome by the location, excellent breakfast and outstanding service. This hotel is centrally located within 20m of the lake in Hanoi and is in a quiet little side street. If I were in Hanoi again I would stay here again without any hesitation. Excellent property with great value for money.

I chose this hotel through recommendation by our tour agency and glad that we did. The hotel is right smack at the middle of the town, walking distance to all the nice attractions like the Hoan Kiem Lake, shops and cafes. There is a halal restaurant about 20 mins walk from the hotel (which you can actually access faster using trishaw or cab too). The breakfast has very very good choice and they also prepared vegetarian items like the fried mee hon apart of the eggs done your style, pancakes, mango salad toast and jem which we the muslims can enjoy. The Staff are very attentive and helpful. They also have a laptop in the room with internet facility which almost all hotels in Hanoi have. The rooms are well appointed the balcony was nice and they even packed some simple breakfast for us as we left on very early morning flight. I wish to recommend the hotel to those on a budget as this is worth more than the amount you paid.

I am very glad we chose this hotel for our stay in Hanoi. Few highlights of the hotel.

- Great location. Right in the middle of the old quarter in Hanoi.
- Clean and tidy rooms. Lovely balcony. Great bathroom.
- The best part of this hotel was the staff. One of the best. Helped out with places to visit around the city. Made reservations for a couple of tours. And very warn, welcoming and friendly in general.
- The hotel room service and great food and even the restaurant at the hotel has some great food.

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony which has the street view.

This is the first hotel we stayed in at Hanoi and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff members are really friendly and welcoming and we felt very much at home. We booked a boat trip to Halong bay via the hotel too, we were at first dubious as many people have mentioned that bookings through hotels are not up to scratch. This proved to be the contrary, we enjoyed our boat trip and would recommend this. Also upon returning from Halong bay, we were upgraded to the penthouse suite for free!!! What a treat, thank you so much, we hope to come back soon.

I had a wonderful time at this hotel in Hanoi. Incredibly welcoming staff and eager to help out. I upgraded my room at a very small cost which was great! I will definitely stay at this hotel when I return to Hanoi. I cannot recommend it enough.

we stayed her twice on our journey around vietnam. the first time we were on the 8th floor which had double glazing and was very quite. on our second stay we were on the 6th floor without double glazing and it wasn't so quite. this hotel is situated at a great location for the lake and the 36 streets for shopping in part of the old quarter. we have stayed in hanoi several times and this is in the quietest road of the old quarter. the staff are friendly and very efficient and helped us with everything. booked airport pick up and return car with them and saved money, as the taxis knew exactly where to go. If they invested in double glazing for all of the rest of the rooms this hotel would get more points and be rated even higher. having said that i would stay here again as its still much quieter than the rest.

Room Tip: the 8th floor front facing are the best rooms.
