“Nice place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

Really nice place close to a nice bar (called Hangout).
Friendly staff (the girl she's bit crazy but with us was really good).
Amazing homelet for breakfast.
Clean room, nice bathroom, fast internet!

We booked 5 nights ...ran away after 2

Location :
Central 5mn walk from Night Market

Building :
Clean room ( 2nd floor facing stairs )
no Fan , no aircon , no fridge
Bathroom could be improved , won't drain properly , flooding all over
Plumbing and electric wire hanging in bathroom
Room not serviced after 1rst night ... towels not changed
Big Construction going on across except noise around 6 ;30 morning if room with balcony facing street

WIFI Internet :
weak and Non reliable even with router in the room ( 2nd floor facing stair )

Breakfast :
eggs or omelet , bread and jam
coffee

Staff :
If we had no issues with Tung
( exchanging mails for booking and Nice chat the first morning )

WE didn't APPRECIATE "Koui" his sister in law's attitude
she acted as being welcoming but turned out trying playing on us the Vietscam game
Disregarding all prices and agreements we had with Tung ....
Charged 15$ for a room with Balcony room 102... but changed due to expected early morning noise for room with no view ...
She was quick telling us it will be same price ( Please note price paid by previous member 12 $ )
Claiming Tung was at Airport leaving Dalat ( when he was just at Hospital, wife having Baby )
refusing to give us back our passports.

2nd morning she never asked what kind of breakfast we wanted throwing omelet on our tables in an inappropriate manner

We moved out the very same norming
to a guest House located in the same street - up part - called Dalat Xu'A Hotel
10$ a night ... same size room , Fan , fridge and fast reliable internet
no breakfast ...
Breakfast can be taken at Peace cafe near les Sapins for reasonable rate

Room Tip: Construction just started across street , except noise

My friends and I arrived at Da Lat to find ourselves at a guesthouse rather different from the ones we saw at Ho Chi Minh City. It appears to be more professionally presented and operates as a cafe at the first floor. We were impressed by the friendliness of the male staff that attended to us. However, aside from his passionate service, there is nothing much else to sing praises to.

Firstly, our passports were kept overnight. This is an extremely rare and undesirable scenario given that passports are our sole identity in a foreign country. It is also required for us to leave at the end of the trip. Who knows what is done to our passports over the night? Duplication perhaps?

The next significant issue that a traveler should be wary of is their seemingly underhand method of placing unwarranted surcharges to our bill. On the morning that we were departing, we had a rude shock to discover an extra USD7 billed per person. We were not involved in the activity that required that fee but the female staff (Quinn) upon our request for an explanation replied that it is for the late return from our climb up the Lang Biang mountain. One, we were only informed that the USD7 will be imposed if we decide to take up the extra activity. Two, there were never any disclaimer that stated an extra charge for late return from the mountain. Three, we were told to take our time to climb up the mountain and that the male staff would drive us back when we return to the foot of the mountain.

Upon our confrontation with the male staff, she spoke to him in Vietnamese and refused to allow us to clarify with him. We believe he's kept in the dark regarding the surcharges. She insisted that we write down our displeasure on a book and that she'll email us a full explanation. Due to the rush to get to the bus terminal, we had no choice but to leave the matter as it is (i,e, be cheated of our money).

Related to this incident is the erroneous booking of our bus. That same morning which we confronted her, she offered to help us book the bus that will bring us back to Ho Chi Minh. She offered to book the 'bigger' bus that is more spacious and comfortable. However, to our shock and dismay, we arrived at the terminal to realize that she had booked the smaller bus, therefore effectively cheating us of more than VND15,000. We had paid her more for a bus which she paid a lot lesser for during her booking.

Furious to know that we have been cheated by her twice, we threatened to call the local police to resolve this matter. She then hurriedly came to the scene from the guesthouse to return us the money. She also begged us to write in black and white on her book that the matter arose from a miscommunication. She also had us reassure her that we're not contacting the police to look into the matter. The book as she claims is for her to report to her manager. As you would have read from other reviews, this is a family-run business. If she has to convince the 'manager' to believe her, she could start with coming to us with the other male staff that were present in the guesthouse that morning. We strongly believe that she is possibly siphoning revenue from the business into her own pockets.

Besides her sneaky act of dishonesty, the guesthouse has several other shortcomings such as (i) the lack of room service (they could at least empty our foul-smelling trash can), (ii) the malfunctioning water heater that forced us to take terribly cold showers in the freezing temperatures of Da Lat and (iii) the poor wifi service that fails to reach the third floor which made us turn to wifi of other guesthouses that are several blocks away.

If you do not mind being strapped of your cash for services you did not use and choose to stay with them, please be wary of their in-house tour services. We braved the Elephant Falls' treacherous path and cliffs without a guide following us (as they were chilling at the top waiting for our return). You can imagine our surprise when we see other tourists with their guides assisting and warning them before they make each step. We also missed out two destinations promised in the stipulated agenda due to unforeseen weather conditions - to which we were not refunded for. It is alright to not refund us if you state clearly at the beginning but quietly charging us for the complete tour when we missed out two iconic locations is just conniving and unprofessional.

Room Tip: Bring a fan. The only wind you gonna get is from the windows (if you are lucky).

All seems brand new, both cafe and rooms finished to a very good quality. Staff are all very nice and friendly. Cafe is slightly pricey but worth it not to be harrased by the "easy rider" mafia, which is the scurge of the town. Even sorted our bus transfer for a good price. Paid around $12 for a double room.

My wife and I arrived in Da Lat during the Vietnamese independence day holiday weekend, so rooms were hard to come by. Les Sapins allowed us to check in very late when a guest had left (and for a discounted rate sice we had to wait). The rooms are well designed, clean, and spacious. We even had a balcony overlooking the street. Breakfast was delicious and included each morning. The only negative aspect of the hotel (and this goes for nearly all hotels in Da Lat) is that the rooms could use a small fan. Overall I feel that we chose the best hotel in the city!

Stumbled across this hotel whilst looking for lunch, the staff were so freindly we decided to take a giuded tour with Que and her husband the next day around Dalat. They took us to the waterfalls and local farms. It was great fun and so much better than being stuck on a bus. Would definetly reccommend that anyone passing through Dalat stops in to visit and see what else they have to offer.

Thanks for the memories!!

Jess & David - Melbourne.
