We recently stayed in the Manathai resort in Phuket and can only say the resort was average. The hotel exterior and public areas are extremely well kept and when we arrived we thought it was going to be great however the problems started here.
We had booked a Pool Suite through Sawadee for 5 nights. This room has a plunge pool and was going to be a nice treat having our own pool. We were given the key to room 514 and when we entered the room there was a horrible smell but I thought it just needed airing. However on closer inspection the room was quite dirty with hair on the floor along with the floor being dirty, a grape on the sofa and the bathroom was full of flies (I counted 12). The pool had also not been cleaned. It was horrible!
I went along to reception and complained and after being told there were no other rooms we were eventually downgraded to a studio room and were told another pool suite would be available the following day. We did try to cancel our booking but the Manathai refused to refund us so we had no option other than to stay.
The Front Office Manager was rather rude when he eventually came to see us and did not appreciate our concerns and not once did he apologise for the inconvenience and for the room being dirty.
After being moved the following day the room was clean however the bathroom was always smelling of sewerage so much on some day it made you feel sick. The cleanliness of this hotel leaves something to be desired. In the time we were there the maid never changed our sheets and the floor was never cleaned either.
On a plus point the general pool outside was lovely and was well maintained but that is the only positive comment I have to make about the whole hotel.
On checking out the hotel then proceeded to get our bill wrong 2 times even though we had it amended which just capped off the whole experience. The prices for food and drink were extremely expensive compared to outside. We went to the mini mart 2 doors along outside and bought drinks and crisps to take back to the room.
We did not eat a meal at the hotel but had some really good food around Surin. “Taste” down on the beach was fabulous.
Needless to say we will not return to the Manathai and unless you want surly staff and dirty accommodation then I would not advise people to go. The Manathai drastically needs to improve their customer service and cleanliness to deserve its 4* rating.
