Mom Tri's Villa Royale is a wonderful place. We stayed in the Dung A Dao suite (room 4). What a spectacular room. Huge amounts of space, and a vaulted ceiling that houses an amazing life sized bronze Budda. The french windows that run along the whole length of the suite open out on to the most breath taking view of Kata Noi beach. The bed is at least 7ft wide. The spa bath was nice, but did take a very long time to fill. However the room was not a disappointment.
This hotel is a typical and great example of a true boutique hotel. The service is very personal. Most of the staff were helpful and professional, specifically Patcheree on reception and Sae and Num 2 of the waiters on breakfast duty. However some of the other staff are a little vague and don't seem to either have a great sense of urgency, or just posses a poor command of the english language. Overall though most of the staff are very nice.
The food at Mom Tri's kitchen, Boathouse and Gung restaurants is superb. Absolutely delicious, as is the sumptuous wine list.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone that isn't very mobile. There are stairs everywhere throughout the hotel. I also wouldn't recommend it for young children, only because from a safety perspective there aren't a lot of guard rails next to the stairs, or in fact any sort of safety features throughout the hotel to protect from falling.
I do recommend that if you want to book day trips or rent a car, do so outside of the hotel at one of the tour stands. We realized too late that they the hotel add a very % for organizing anything for you. In fact we paid 1800 THB per day for a Toyota Avenza when in fact it was a pretty pathetic little car with insufficient engine power to climb a basic hill. We then discovered that we could of rented it elsewhere for as little as 1300 THB per day. I did complain to the receptionists at the hotel and said I was really disappointed and felt ripped off. To their credit they listened and reduced the rate to 1600 THB per day, and only charged us for 3 days as opposed to 4. However I do not recommend that you hire this car.
Finally I have to mention one last disappointing aspect at Mom Tri's. Every evening the tables are set out beautifully taking in the amazing views in readiness for that evenings diners. The tables and food, as I have already said are exceptional, however the singer who is there every evening is awful. The pianist that accompanies her is great, but the lady singer is nothing short of shocking. The sad thing is that my husband and I, and I would bet many other guests would have eaten at the hotel more - or even returned from dinner outside the hotel earlier for a drink if she was a good singer. It isn't just that she can't hold a note, or that her pronounciation is poor but more over, the songs are dreadfully old and depressing. I believe if they employed a western style jazz/blues style singer ( similar in style to Michael Buble or Henry Connick Jnr) the place would be packed constantly. We certainly would have spent more time there.
In summary the place is wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks stay. I would highly recommend it to couples. I would go back in a heartbeat.
