We have just returned from a two week stay at the Aquamarine. It is was wonderful. The hotel is beautiful set on a cliff top with fantastic views and a welcome breeze from the sea. The staff were excellent could not do enough for you and always so plesant and smiling.

We agree with others that the hotel is a bit far from the towns and beaches of Kamala and Patong, but it was nice to be able to relax during the day here if we wanted to or to go into the hustle and bustle of the town, which we did every evening. We used to take the hotel shuttle bus into Patong, there we would have a massage and then go for dinner and a shop about or just simply sit and have a drink and people watch - a fascinating place. Then get a 20 min tuk tuk ride back to the hotel.

A couple of tips which we wish we knew before we had gone there. firstly, the hotel provides beach and pool towels, no need to take your own and also the dress code is very casual, no dresses, shirts or high heels needed. Just shorts, tshirts and flip flops.

Another tip is do not pay more than 300 baht for a tuk tuk back from Patong they will try to get more, but you can get one easy for 300 - we did every night for 14 nights.

Enjoy and relax

“Beautiful Hotel with great attention to detail”

Aquamarine Resort and Villa

We stayed in the Aquamarine for 1 week. Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm smiles in a gorgeous pavilion overlooking the pool and the sea. We checked in and was taken to our room. Although small, the room was very nice. It had a great welcome fruit basket waiting for us and a beautiful green-tiled bathroom and a balcony with sea views.

I know that some of the reviews mentioned that it was far away from the town. Yes this is true, but the hotel provides complimentary transfers into town a few times a day (you have to book these transfers beforehand) and tuk tuks don't cost that much anyway. I actually found it quite welcoming to stay somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Also, all the day trips have complimentary pick up and drop off anyway, though you will be the first to be picked up and the last to be dropped off.

And yes, there is a hill, but there are stairs provided and it is not that difficult to walk up a hill - don't really know what people are whinging about... Plus you can request to ride the golf buggie from reception if you really need to.

The wet edge pool with the bar is just lovely. We found it great to relax by after a day out to the islands.

Don't get me started on the buffet brekkie each morning! It was magnificent to dine by the pool with the most amazing food and a huge choice!

The only drawback of the place is the restaurant for lunch and dinner is not that great - it is quite expensive and the night that we ate there - the curry was really really spicy (even though we asked for mild) and quite average. I advise you to go into town for dinner - even if you have to pay for a tuk tuk home.

TIPS:
Don't book daytrips before you go - it is way cheaper to book it when you get there, plus you know what the weather will be like.

We HIGHLY recommend the canoe caves tour - it was the highlight of our holiday!

“give it a go”

give it a go,, you will be suprised. my husband , teenage daughter and i had a great time there. the staff were brilliant and so was the food, service and the hotel in general. being about 20 min tuk tuk drive from main beach phuket (patong) was not an issue, there is a free bus in the morning and plenty of taxi's to call on if you miss it. this was our second trip to phuket in as many years and i would highly recomend this hotel. being out of the main throng it lets you a have very relaxing time and yet you still can get your fill of shopping and tours without the loud night parties at night.

We stayed at the aquamarine for 12 nights Oct and we absolutely fell in love with this hotel and it's location. I must admit I was nervous after reading all the reviews but the hotel is beautiful (much better than the photos on the website). Rooms are beautifully decorated with a modern thai feel. Yes the beds are hard but you would find beds in asia are all hard. The deluxe rooms all have a view of the beach. We had no problem with the walk to our room. The hills are steep but if you are of average fitness you will not find this an issue and the boys on the buggys more than willing to take you. The hotel itself is far from Patong, but if you are after the night life then I would not recommend staying here. Kalama beach is about a 10 mins walk which we did every day and well worth it otherwise there is a shuttle bus every hour. The town is small with beautiful seaford restaurants along the beach (which Patong doesn't have) giving you an island holiday feel. There are also a few shops, 7 elevens, beauty salons and restaurants in the main street. Kalama is very similar to Noosa is QLD and Patong is like the Gold coast. I personally didn't like Patong so if you are in for a romantic island holiday, this hotel is for you. I didn't have any problems with the hotel service and will be going back next year. For those who love the beach, check out Surin Beach 10 mins drive north of Kalama which is a surf beach set on the bottom of a mountain with restaurants and hotels along the beachfront. The only issue I had during my stay is that is rained just about the whole time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 10 days in Thailand. We spent a few days on Phi Phi (to relax before we hit Phuket). Our room at the Aquamarine was very nice (Villa) and in a quiet place in the hotel. I had read all the reviews from Trip Advisor on the Aquamarine and most all stated how steep going it was getting around the resort. That is deffinately true. The resort does offer a golf buggy to run you up to your room but it was very strange how the drivers would dissapear when a taxi or bus pulled up into the resort. We later found out that the better you tip them the more likely they are to appear!!! The rooms where clean and the meals realy nice. Staff in the main part of the resort eg waiters and food staff were excellent and very friendly. We also found that resort was to far from Phuket and you do end up spending more on tuk tuk rides than planned. But having said that the ride home at night after a meal and some intense shopping was really pretty. We loved our experinece but would have loved that the Aquamarine was closer and built on flat land. This is deffinately not the place for the elderly or someone with a dissability.
