We arrived at the Layan at 10pm at night with 2 children (4,7) who had been up for 26 hours traveeling from NZ with stopover in Australia. We only wanted a 1 night stay as were moving to another hotel closeby for a function the following day. Firstly the taxi driver couldnt find it. Then when we arrived the place seemed to be dead apart from about 4 Thai people waiting for us to sign in. There didnt look to be any other life around the place at all. Part way trough the registration process we asked to see the room, it took the woman approx 5 minute sof going through plastic bags to find a key after which time we had managed to get the cab driver to hang around as it was in the back of beyond and we ould have been stuck there if he had gone. My husband went up to look at the room which you had to walk way up a stony, gravelly type path to. No welcoming lights or anything. The room / unit was as he put it "NOT FIT FOR A DOG!" and filthy. He knew we wouldnt sleep well in that environment so told the woman we wanted to leave. She was most unhappy and tried to get cleaners to come and get a better room (didnt appear to be anyone else staying) BUT by then we had had enough and just wanted to get out of there. We then tried to get to Patong to Ban Thai Hotel as had friends stayying there at the time BUT driver tried to take us "To Banyan tree - much closer". He didnt seem to know his way around too well and stopped at a dodgy looking tourist shop to get directions in Thai from people he knew. We did eventually get to Ban Thai which was absolutely fine and we were just pleased to put our head down.
