“Relaxing island, superb staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013 via mobile

Arrived on island to very attentive and helpful staff. The staff are the credit to the resort and always go that extra mile. They made my birthday special by presenting me with a cake.
Accommodation Is superb. Both Restaurants have tasty food, there is variety and choice for every taste at breakfast.
Would happily return.

Dear Kimbe G,

I'm delight that you found The Village on Coconut Island so relaxing and that the staff were attentive and prepared to go the extra mile. I will ensure that the staff are made aware of your positive remarks.

I'm also pleased you enjoyed both the restaurants. We will be opening our Japanese restaurant in a couple of weeks ... so we will 'happily' welcome a return visit in the not too distant futre, to sample new delights.

Thank you for sending a review to TA.
Best regards

My son and I really enjoyed this resort the staff were very friendly and the pool was wonderful it is a great place to do nothing but enjoy the facilities. The water taxi's were very efficient and we never had to wait long. My only problem was that it was quite a long way from the towns but the taxi drivers were pretty good and would take us and wait to bring us home only about $30 for both ways. I also learnt about a delicious cocktail called " James Bond" made beautifully by the bar tenders
Thanks for a lovely Holiday

D.ear "Saffi 2013",
Thank you writing a TA review, great to have very positive remarks from a citizen of Bateman's Bay [lovely place too!].
With regard to your remark about distances .... whereas is a 45 minute trip to the west coast towns and resorts, actually it is only 5 kms to Phuket Town - which is a little gem. However, its true that it would have been too hot and humid to be taking a hike, so I am delighted you found 'accommodating' taxi drivers to take care of you.
Having experienced the joys of the 'James Bond', Jacqui .... we hope to see you again to enjoy another couple or so in the not so distant future.
Best regards

We swapped out timeshare week through Interval for a week here. The place looked amazing on the website and we couldn't wait to get here. Some reviews had made us apprehensive, but we needn't have worried. There are some issues (mentioned later), but not what I would call holiday spoilers.

Firstly, this is an island resort so a hotel boat is required, however it leaves from each jetty every half an hour and runs 24 hours (on demand after midnight). Booking a hotel on an island one would expect that guests would enjoy island life and not need to leave every day, however if you did the service was great.

Some reviews have stated that the resort isn't 5 star. In terms of facilities, it is impressive. Two restaurants, bar, two swimming pools, private beach, free sailing and kayaking, mountain bikes, onsite shop, spa, gym and more......the facilities are definitely 5 star; however I would agree that the entry level rooms that we stayed in, known as the Jacuzzi Suites are not at a 5 star level. Certain fixtures were on the cheap side, such as the wardrobes, drawers/cabinet and items such as the bed linen could be of a better quality. There was only one pillow each too where you would find two each in most 5 star hotels.

The rooms do come equipped with TV, DVD, mini-bar and a limited kitchen. We also really liked the bathroom with two sinks, rain shower, bath and lovely tiles. The open plan style may not be to everyone's taste, but the rooms are spacious. There is a jacuzzi however we found this more of a novelty than something we really needed or wanted. We tried it once, but as they are sunken you just look at the roots of the bushes that surround it.

The resort is more relaxed than you would normally get at a 5 star hotel. I made the mistake of taking too many jeans and shirts, when shorts and t-shirts were the main requirement in the evenings. Note the two restaurants are covered but open, so there's only fans to keep you cool. If you are just in shorts and t-shirts then you'll be fine. There is a new fine-dining Japanese restaurant opening soon which will be air conditioned, and will add a more dressed up option.

The food was simply excellent. The Thai food served in Tamarind was fantastic, and felt true to Thai. We had three meals here and everyone was exquisite. If anyone reviews the food here as bad, then they just don't like true Thai food as it was the best we had from all the restaurants we ate in whilst on holiday, including the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. The other restaurant called the Deli offered great sandwiches and the pizza's from their wood oven amongst other great choices. We also found that the menu's were well priced particularly for an island resort. As we were on a timeshare swap we were room only, so can't comment on breakfast.

The service was mostly good. There are a few issues mainly with attention to the customers. Sometimes they all seem to disappear towards the kitchen rather than ensuring there is always someone on the floor to attend to diners needs. A simple issue to resolve.

The bar is rustic and in keeping with the whole resort. It has the most idyllic view out to sea with Phang-Nga Bay in the distance. They have a two hour Happy Hour, which is great value and provides a pint of tiger beer at just 75 baht! We also got to see some magical lightening shows in the distance! We just loved the bar, sitting, drinking, chatting with guests and looking at the view......fabulous.

The private beach is nice....although some reviews don't say so. Due to the tides it can get debris (mainly twigs and leaves) washed up, however it was good to see that the gardening staff were on hand to clean as required. Away from the main beach there can be a little rubbish, and I do feel that a full cleanse along the whole beach should be completed regularly. At low tide, the walk to the water may not be recommended as the sea floor goes from sand to a muddier base, but this is just the natural bay and nothing that the hotel can do. The water is clean and swimming in the sea is absolutely fine.

The free sailing and kayaking was great. Having sailed over 20 years ago I loved the opportunity to do it again, and if you can sail then its absolutely free! If you don't, then you can learn for just 750 baht. We also enjoyed massages at the Spa. Prices are obviously more than back on Phuket but we felt they were certainly acceptable. The Spa rooms are lovely and you enjoy a welcome drink, cold towels and tea afterwards.

We talked to most of the English staff there and they are addressing certain issues I have mentioned, however as I said in my opening paragraph these weren't holiday spoilers. If you are looking for a super posh place then this may not be for you, however if you want an idyllic island retreat that offers great food, loads of activities with simple accommodation then you will love it. Note, the resort does have villas which I believe are far more upmarket, so if you have the extra cash then go for one of these.

Thanks Village Coconut Island.....we loved it!

Dear 'pstodd 2000' ... Mr Todd, I assume!
Thank you for your extensive review - we are always pleased to receive a review - and especially from a seasoned travel such as you from the Interval International programme. In particular, your comments about the facilities being 5 star was nice to see. As for the entry level 'Jacuzzi Suite', we are in the process of improving and refurbishing all our suites, but we have been so busy in the low season [we should be so lucky!] that the schedule hasn't been completed as I write - but we should be there by the 'peak' Christmas period ... so, I'm sorry that you found yours needing some 'TLC' Having said that, extra pillows should have been made available on request.
Your positive comments are much appreciate [loved the one about 'true Thai food -as all our chefs are Thai!] and the constructive critique on items you regarded as 'non-holiday spoilers' most helpful. All are 'noted'.

So thank you again .. we hope you will visit us again to enjoy The Village ... and to have an opportunity to sail in Phang Nga bay again.

Best regards

Our first trip to Asia and we loved every minute on Coconut Island. The food was great at both restaurants, the buffet breakfast was excellent with so many choices especially the egg cooking station. The pools, the fun slides and water sports were great fun but most importantly this was a relaxing, tranquil paradise. The level of service was very high and the staff were so friendly, our favourites were Ton who served at the beach bar and Alen who welcomed us to breakfast every morning with her beautiful smile. The complimentary boat service was so handy always available and always on time so whether we wanted to try the food at the Thai fish restaurant at the pier on Phuket or visit the evening market in Phuket town we could without too much planning.
Best part of the holiday laying on the beach with a chilled beer being able to walk a couple of metres and taking a dip in the fabulous pool.We will be going back.

Dear Robert 1,

Thank you for taking the time to write to TA about your experiences on your first visit to Asia at The Village, Coconut Island. Excellent news for us, that you enjoyed every minute. You mentioned Khun Ton [at the Beach Bar] and the 'welcome smile at breakfast each morning from Khun Alen .... your kind remarks have been passed to them both. We are, of course, delighted you enjoyed our restaurants [we are opening a third restaurant - Japanese - before Christmas], but also that you enjoyed sampling the local Sea Food at Laem Hin Pier. We look forward to welcoming you back for another 'cold beer' on the beach. Best wishes

This truly is a wonderful island experience. Do not be put off by the boat, it runs 24hrs on a 30min time table
In need on some extra touches on the service side but superb value for money and great staff (Jack).

Dear Laura C,
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Village and that it was 'Value for Money and that 'Jack' dererved a mention .... he was 'chuffed'! One thing I do need to clarify for readers of your review: Our Water Taxis do run 24/7, however, the 30 minute schedule reverss to an 'on call' service between midnight and 7 a.m. Thanks for taking time to write to TA.
Best wishes

Me and my partner are here on our first vacation together, after a long flight from the uk we arrived at about 2300hrs Sunday 10th November, we were welcomed with a refreshing drink and a wet towel,

From the moment we arrived we have enjoyed every minute, the two restaurants provide an excellent choice of food an we haven't fount it to be "overpriced" as many people have stated.

We are staying in a jacuzzi suite N0 29 and it's fantastic and peaceful no generator noise has impeded our sleep as the bed is very comfy.

The staff are also very friendly and always go out of their way to help, we have also had a chance to speak to some of the management team who are also a great bunch.

Anyway were on day 4 of 13 and are already talking about our next trip here this place is truly amazing.

Thank you very much for your 'early' review of The Village. We were delighted to have your thoughts at that stage of your stay. What's more, as you are aware, we also enjoyed numerous 'chats' whilst you stayed with us. We are so pleased your enjoyment continued and look forward to see you again soon. Best regards from all The Village team.

Our first time to Thailand and our first time to actually book a 'block' of time anywhere. We stayed 2 weeks and loved ever minute of it. The service was brilliant but it must be said we were there in the low season. The rooms were clean and well appointed although not a lot of time spent in them. Any problems were quickly addressed by staff, being no water as a worker accidently dug up the pipes. Both the deli and tamarind provided a good variety of food and good service. Very clean and the gardens were constantly being attended too by an army of gardeners. We'll be back when we need another relaxing vacation and the need to be pampered in the wonderful spa once again. Highly recommended and value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms cater for everyones needs from family to couples. We had a suite and it was great. everyth...
