“good value for price, good potential, poorly run.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2011

The Naklua beach Resort is a nice little Hotel that has great potential but sadly is very poorly run. You might still find it good value for price, depending on the rate you get. With some shortcomings it is quite suitable for Families with children.

It is located directly at the sea in Pattaya which gives a beautiful views across an small artificial stretch of sand. There is no natural beach and the sea cannot be accessed as it is a mud-area and one has to be aware of the tremendous pollution in Pattaya in general. The Hotel itself is located conveniently at a Tuc-Tuc-Taxi-line to the center but there is only one restaurant in walking distance (Chinese/Thai). The Naklua market is close (mon/thu) and so is the night market (Sat).

The majority of the Hotel-Staff only speaks Thai. Although there is usually one person in the Restaurant or at Reception found to speak English, you cannot count on them to care for your wishes. They might rather comment laughingly at you in Thai among each other. Reception is more service oriented than the restaurant but it was not possible to get an extra sheet for my child ("no have") at 7pm, we had to wait for Housekeeping the next day...

The restaurant has a very good Chef cooking tasty Thai dishes, but the service staff is helpless or just unwilling.

The pool is large and an attractive layout, with a seperate children-pool. You can get massages at the Pool for a reasonable price and drinks are served in plastic cups at the pool area. Unfortunately in the afternoon, after approx. 3pm the pool is not reached by the sun any more and it becomes quite chilly, even if in the sun there is still close to 30 degress Celsius. I also found the water in the pool rather cool. Sunbathers move to the sandy strip near the muddy dump they call sea in Pattaya.

Children can be left in the children´s pool and watched from the balcony of the room. The rooms are spacious and nice, all with balcony towards the pool. Shampoo and bath foam are supplied free of charge, for the beach towel a small washing fee is collected.

The Pool is supposed to be closed during the night. However, some people (in my case the Russians) frequently use the pool recklessly and noisily after coming home from Pattaya night life. Staff has been alerted to this fact but does not care to intervene. Also, there is loud music to be heard at night but I am not aware if there is a night club in the Hotel itself or where the noise comes from.

Guests in the Hotel are mainly Russian, some Asian. thus all written information is Thai and Russian only.

Breakfast (until 10) is Thai and when it is fresh it is cooked excellently. But if you come later than 8 you will find most things gone cold and staff cannot be bothered to heat the food again...

I was travelling with a little kid and found pool, room and sandy area perfect for our needs but I could not get suitable food for a European-style eating child in the Restaurant or anywhere near the Hotel. And we had two rather bad accidents at the pool-side as very slippery granite stones are frequently included in the pool-side paving wich otherwise is done in a pretty and practical pebble-concrete.
