We stayed in May 2012 for 8 Nights, with My wife and 2 Kids 4 and 17. We originally booked a 2 bedroom suite at the Royal Cliff Terrace . This was okay very spacious and good value for the money , however the view was just okay from the balcony. After 1 night and on my Birthday we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom theme suite in the Royal Beach wow!!. Aparrently there was renovations going on at the restuarant near us and management were concerned about possibly noise , we didnt hear any noise so we were very greatfull. The Theme suites are Huge almost like large apartments. Split level Lounge Seperate dining with a full wet bar and an Extra large Double balcony overlooking the infinity pool. It was litterally like a House. The decor was a bit tired but thats being picky.
The Royal Cliff is more like a village being over 4 Hotels 6 Pools Tennis courts Bakery, Various bars and many Restuarants. You just dont need to leave it. The Private beach area is accessable from its own elevator to the beach. There is also a Private Cafe/Beach bar on the end of the beach, Not run by the Hotel but offers Very friendly Service and Cheap beer and all day dinning. You can also get a cheap massage on the cliff side if you want.
The restuarants and food at Royal Cliff are just divine. Faultless in every way and represent great value for money for a 5 Star Hotel. We especially fell in love with Breezos restuarant by the Sea. the fresh seafood cooked the way you want with the Spices you want was just the Highlight for me. Breezos is well located by the sea and is wonderfull to just sit back over a beer and watch the sunset before enjoying a Feast. We also ate at the Indian Restuarant and also enjoyed the Buffet at the Royal Grand Hotel. We ate at Caprices last time we went all are great but all have only one negative? too many empty seats and I dont know why the food is impecable its certainly not expensive for a Hotel. Sure you can find food in the Town cheaper but no where near the quality and with the service. It puzzles me, as we noticed it last time we stayed as well. Even the bars are fairly empty. The resort was fairly booked so not lacking people.
The resort does have a large percentage of Russians, I have read other peoples less flattering comments on Trip Advisor about this and I must say I find the Russian very approachable and Friendly. Sure their english is a bit ubrupt but I find them all very Family oriented just as we are. The resort is very multi cultural we met people form India , Switzerland, Yemen , Germany, Russia and other Aussies we love this part of travelling meeting people from different origins.
We all enjoyed the pool area in the day before heading out at night to do bargain shopping and get those well deserved massages. Jomtien Beach is not far as well as Pattya town.
The Hotels Spa also offers massages but of course at rather higher prices as is the usual. I treated myself to a 2 person massage their on my Birthday for 1 1/2 hours it was just great. the spa is a great location in the Royal Grand hotel ovelooking the beach with great Views.
Only negative of Hotel is the transport to town. Taxis arn't allowed to park in the grounds so you must get Shuttle to top of driveway (too far to walk) and then haggle with taxi drivers they seem to take advantage of the fact that they have waited for you and ask a lot more than the fare on the way back. After 1st day we just paid the Hotel extra (about 50% more) to drive us in there private cars to town and taxied back.. Who cares were on Holidays!
I Certainly must reccommend the Royal Cliff its the bench mark in Pattaya as far as im concerned. I also reccomend Pattaya as a destination its reputation of the over night life side dosn't do it justice as there is much to do here for a family only 1 1/2 hours drive from Bangkok its great. I have been to Phuket before but still prefer Pattaya.
Will definatly stay again in a few more years time.
