We stayed at this resort for 4 days in late December. Pattaya was not our first choice of beach to spend Christmas given its rather bad reputation, but it seemed everything else in Thailand was booked up. Our expectations were not very high, but Royal Cliff ended up being a rather pleasant surprise. It's located on a private stretch of beach between Pattaya and Jomtien beaches and is fairly isolated, which translates to relative peace and quiet.

The beach is certainly not the nicest in Thailand, but on the other hand was surprisingly quiet and relaxing, and we actually ended up liking it. There was an occasional roar of a jet ski but that was usually far in the distance and wasn't too bad.

The rooms in the hotel (we had a beach view deluxe room) are very nice and are very well equipped, including decent tv, wireless internet access, a safe, and a very nice bathroom. The service was good, wihch is typical for Thailand. The restaurants in the hotel are spectacular. The Grill Room and Wine Cellar has a 3-star chef who creates really fantastic and original dishes. In addition, there is an amazing wine selection. We also made frequent stops in the Japanese restaurant, because they had very good quality sashimi.

The resort seems to market primarily to Eastern European tourists, and at the time when we were there, around 80% of visitors were from Russia. At times, English was not spoken too well by the staff, but that wasn't a big deal and is understandable.

My only complaint about the hotel is that there are millions of mosquitoes everywhere in the evening, both indoors and outdoors. Sometimes during meals we were under constant attack. If the hotel is not willing to control them better, it would be nice if at least mosquito nets were provided in rooms, because there always seemed to be many buzzers in our room no matter how hard we tried to get rid of them.

Other then this, the Royal Cliff is great and if you're looking for a short beach holiday close to Bangkok, this would definitely be my choice.

My wife and I have recently returned from our tenth annual holiday at the Royal Cliff. Over the past 10 years we have stayed at all but one of the Resort Hotels and Dined at most of the restaurants

Service at the Royal Cliff is exceptional. The management and staff always willing to go that little bit further to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

The award winning restaurants are of the highest standard. The swimming pools are exceptional, especially the main pool where the staff do far more than is usually expected.

The rooms are well maintained and serviced to the highest standard

We spent a most enjoyable 3 weeks at the Royal Cliff and have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Having been recommended to this hotel by Somsak Martin Frutin an ex-pat now living in a luxurious residence close by, I was favourably impressed by the beautiful flower lined driveway and security aspect and the welcome on arrival.
My mini suite boasted a huge bed and an elevated sitting room area with a slightly dated TV and a balcony with a view and sunsets which made me almost cry with delight.
The pool was extremely well organised and beautiful, I ate at several of the hotel's restaurants and never felt "on my own" because the smiling staff were attentive and charming.Food was good, too, One tip: hotel limo to town is expensive by Thai standards. Take free shuttle to gates and catch a local taxi for half the price. The soup at La Ronde next door was superb and surprisingly affordable, too. Like the best? This is for you. I'll be back.

“Our Favourite Hotel”

Royal Cliff Beach Hotel

This is a good 4 star plus hotel with very well trained staff and a reasonable restaurant / room service tariff. The buffet breakfast is a bit expensive but well worth the experience on at least one of your days stay. A basic but acceptable 'roughing it' breakfast can be had for 1 US$ on the beach at Super Sams or you can have coffee and toast by the pool for 2 US$.
The rooms are getting a bit tired now but the management are in the process of refurbishing them. The DVD Player hire is expensive and for the price of one nights hire you can go to the supermarket Tesco Lotus and buy a DVD Player and then give it to the maid when you leave.
We like this Hotel which is value for money.

“large and impersonal”

Royal Cliff Beach Hotel

This is a large hotel complex, and so large that I think it becomes impersonal. It is a 10 minute ride from the main Pattaya area, which is the reason why we chose this hotel not wanting to stay admidst what Pattaya is famous for, however, on reflection, the location is the worst thing about this hotel. Hotel is divided into four main wings, and we stayed at the Beach hotel in a sea view deluxe room.

The rooms were large, clean and serviced on a daily basis with towel changes twice a day. A courtesy trolly takes you around the hotel, which is fast, efficient and regular.

There are a number of pools within the complex (access depends on which area of the hotel you are staying in), and three childrens pools which were fine, although I felt could have been cleaned more frequently.

The maids and room boy cannot be faulted for friendliness and work ethic, however, this was not replicated throughout the rest of the hotel and in particular the reception area, and the staff at the panoramic restaurant where each request was met with reluctance (warming of milk for the kids.

I really liked the food at the Maharani (Indian ) restaurant, and Larn Thong (Thai) and prices were similar to back home.

The hotel used to have a "secret staff" entrance which allowed you quick and easy access to other shops, restaurants etc etc however this has been sealed to prevent hotel guests from eating outside the hotel, which means that you are only able to use hotel limousines to leave the resort unless you pick up a baht bus which is dropping others off. It also means that you have to eat at the hotel which can become quite pricey and the breakfast in partucilar does not represent value for money.

We found another way to access the small number of shops and restaurants adjacent to the hotel through the beach but this invl;oves a lot of steps and a steep climb too. The beach area is very small but not that much of an issue for us, as it served a purpose.

It is primarily because of the location that I would not stay here again, althopugh it is a nice enough hotel.
