“Enjoyed the river”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

The facilities are good. We specially a had good time on the lazy river. Food are plenty. The beach was front was not that good, though it will be complimented by the large pools in the resort. Wish we could have stayed longer than the 1 day we booked.

This hotel is beautiful. The staff are friendly but can only speak English really well when you are being nice, if you complain about something (namely Russians pushing in) their English becomes non existent . They have Happy Hours at different times in the bars which are extremely useful for those on a budget. If you take out the bonus extra money on your first day beware because it does NOT include any tips you give or some of the SPA, you will receive this as an extra bill on your checkout (ALSO CROSS OUT THE TIP SECTION ON YOUR SIGNATURE SLIP WHEN YOU CHARGE IT TO THE ROOM BECAUSE YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF PAYING FOR TIPS YOU DID NOT AUTHORIZE). The location of the hotel is superb, the outlook glorious and the grounds are idyllic. The rooms are large and very clean with lovely sea views from the fabulous balconies. A bottle of wine was approximately £30.00 but the Mai Tai's(cocktails) were 2 for 220bahts which is approximately £4.00 for the two. You only have to walk a short distance to get a good meal and drinks outside. Taxi's are very cheap and just outside the hotel is a superb local travel agent who will book all trips, shows or fishing you want.

Was weekend getaway from Bangkok. Stayed with 2 children, booked room with breakfast direct from their website. It says children under 12 free b'fast but was going to be charged 800 baht for 2 children but I refused to pay and show them confirmation from the hotel regarding b'fast. Had very nice dinner at Acqua their Italian restaurant, the chef was very friendly but food was pricy, we end up paid bit over 10.000 baht just for 2 main course, 1 entrée and a bottle of red but happy with quality of the food. Swimming pool great, children loved it, their favourite spot was the jumping Clift and game room. Has lots of water slides. It would be great if the restaurant near swimming pool have menu fish and chips thou as that food great lunches for children. Overall was great weekend stay.

Dear Shasha2877

Thank you for your review.

We were especially delighted that you were impressed with Acqua Italian Restaurant service , food & wine. We are so lucky to have such a truly wonderful culinary team led by a magnificent Chef. Furthermore we also provide others specialty restaurants and bars within the property. Flames is a beachfront BBQ and grill, Ginger and Lime serves Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese cuisine while Zulu is a trendy, party bar with private karaoke rooms also Oceans
Bar&Restaurant and Waves Bar the perfect place for your sunset drinks. I’m terribly sorry for the matter of your kids‘s breakfast .We are appreciated that you have told us about it and hope this unfortunate experience will not deter you from staying with us once again and that you will give us the chance to restore your faith in our services.

There is no way this a five star hotel, more like a three star. We were travelling with our daughter and booked a Club Mirage Room with two queen beds. On check in we were advised that myself and my husband could use the club room but not our daughter as this was not included in the price ! Our room was satisfactory although the floor had not been swept and the handle fell off the toilet door resulting in our daughter being locked in. The pool area had empty cups and half eaten food on the sunbeds which the pool attendant made a half attempt at cleaning up, he left the food and tipped the contents of the cup of the ground ! The breakfast service was poor, the tea pots were dirty and cracked, the milk on the table for the tea was sour and there were wet towels on the ground filling in holes at the bottom of the steps. We had booked to stay in this hotel for five nights but checked out after one. If you are looking for a quality five or even four star hotel, do not stay here.

book the club mirage and it was worth the extra price. As the club room provide all - day snack and cocktail. The hotel was very large and the pool was extensive. The first impression was spectacular. The room facility was good and comfortable but nothing special that stood out.
The kids thoroughly enjoy the pool, slides and lazy river.
However, the check-in process need improvement. It was chaotic, and the wait was long. We had to wait an hour pass check- in time but was not grant the request for late check-out.
The breakfast room was big but very chaotic and not very clean.

Dear TW N,

Thanks for you review.

More and more of our guests are choosing to buy Club Mirage when staying with us and why not! You can enjoy exclusive access to our Club Lounge located on the private 12th floor of the South Tower offering both indoor and outdoor sections with perfect ocean views complete with buffet breakfast, mid morning snacks, lunch time snacks, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and canapes and all day tea, coffee, and juice service! And did we mention FREE wifi!?

Your comments regarding check in are well noted. We strive to have our guests relaxing in their rooms shortly after their arrival at the hotel. We are sorry if we did not deliver this to you on this occasion. Unfortunately due to the popularity of the resort early arrival is challenging and recommend to arrive in the late afternoon to give yourself the best chance of a swift check in to our huge lost world themed rooms!

It's a great hotel, clean, safe etc. Almost luxury as most of the reviews explain. The pool area is large and for kids - that's the clue here.

Let me still note some things. It's pricey in Thai standards. All their services prices are "++". It means that it's a high price + 10% + 7% taxes/fees will be always added. Room prices also vary a lot search around the web and You might find a good deal.

Flames grill was excellent, good service, nice food. The italian restaurant, really great even for the high price. Although Pattaya has such a great variety so You don't need to eat in the hotel.

If You book a family room, make sure that You have breakfast for all the persons included. Otherwise You end up paying 440 baht extra per person which is a lot in Pattaya. Breakfast, even there's a great variety, it's everyday the same, and very crowded. Each morning we needed to wait upto 10 minutes to get a table - which was dirty and then needed to ask coffee up to 4 times. I'm not picky, but if I pay 440 baht for a breakfast, I expect some service in Thailand, or actually everywhere in the world.

Swimming pools, rivers, jumping cliff, aerobics at the pool everyday is great but it comes with a price. Gym - no access unless You are over 16 years. Playroom - need to pay to get it, Playstations, need to pay to play.

So, the verdict: it's a massive complex, meaning lot's of people and a big hazzle. Prepare to pay a premium.

How to improve: If the hotel fixes the breakfast bottleneck - that would already raise my score.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view. Don't worry about that.

Dear AndyHR,

Thanks so much for your review.

Yes, we are a large resort with 555 rooms and expansive waterpark and grounds but the best thing about the resort is that it doesn't feel that big. There are many areas around the resort to relax and unwind and as you point out, also plenty of things to do for kids young and old!

You are right, breakfast at Oasis can be busy, especially late morning so if an earlier breakfast doesnt suit you, why not enjoy exclusive access to our Club Lounge for a little extra money. Its located on the private 12th floor of the South Tower offering both indoor and outdoor sections with perfect ocean views complete with buffet breakfast, mid morning snacks, lunch time snacks, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and canapes and all day tea, coffee, and juice service

Just another option at Thailands most talked about absolute beachfront resort! At CMBR you will be spoilt for choice.

The first impression is immediately positive. The hotel is very clean, has a nice reception/main entrance area and a fantastic lazy river/swimming pool area. What is missing is a nice bar. But let me go into the pro's and con's bullet by bullet. I stayed in the hotel in October 2013 with my wife and three little children.

Pro's:
- Best family room I have ever seen incl a loft bed for children. Separate bed-room for the parents, living room and separate sleeping area for the kids incl a huge bathroom. Well done, Centara. Truly great for a family.
- For little children the pool/lazy river area is fantastic.
- staff is helpful.
- Food is good, but a little over-prized.(as always in hotels I would say)

Con's:
- The beach is very narrow and dirty. Water is full of litter. We didnt swim in it at all.
- I saw a rat in the restaurant
- I believe there are lots of rats in the hotel. In my room I heard a constant scratching-noise behind the walls at night. Every once in a while I banged my fist against the wall. Then the scratching stops for a minute and then it starts all over again.I had relatives staying on the 11th floor. They made the same experience.
- The hotel doesn't allow smoking even in open air restaurants. There are some areas where you are allowed to smoke. As I smoker I find this a Con, non-smokers may find this nice.
- A nice central bar is missing. Yes there are eateries and stuff but I personally think every hotel needs a nice bar where you can have a drink and smoke a cigarette once the kids are sleeping.
- The surrounding area is not very nice. The beaches are terrible all around and pattaya itself is not an environment for family holidays at all.

Dear Lidsor,

Thank you for you kind review.

We are glad that your overall impression of our hotel was positive and that you and your family enjoyed our family oriented resort and facilities.

Your comments regarding the beach cleanliness are well noted. Although this is public land we do have a team of dedicated gardeners and part of their scope of work is to take care of the beach for our guests. There is no excuse for garbage on any beach and we do our part to keep things as clean as possible. Regarding your sighting of vermin around our outdoor restaurant, as a five star international hotel we take cleanliness very seriously and have a very high standard and procedures. We do engage a professionally qualified pest control company that work with us to address any pest related issues. We advised them without hesitation regarding your comments. While vermin can be an issue in and around Pattaya, we do not normally see this at our resort due to our efforts in keeping pest control to the highest standard.

Thanks also for your humble comments regarding smoking in and around the resort. While we do not wish to discriminate and do provide areas for smokers, we must assure all guests with our best intentions.

Stay tuned for our new happy hour project at Oceans Bar and Restaurant and new ideas on the way for sunset drinks at Waves Bar, perfect for a relaxing drink or two. And then there is always Zulu Bar open every night until very late!

Thanks again
