“Club Lounge Is a Fantastic Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2012

This is my first review and felt that after returning from the Centara yesterday i needed to write something.

Firstly you must realise that the 5 star rating for this hotel is justified in my opinion for the location, views from the balcony, service in the club lounge and facilities. Those expecting a 5 star quiet luxury resort with someone available to cater for their every whim will not quite get what they want. Having said that we are a couple without kids, knew what to expect from this family resort and were not disappointed at all. Just the intial walk around the resort is enough to make you feel that you have made a good choice.

The location is far enough out of the city to forget that you are in Pattaya, but close enough for a quick ride on the baht bus when needed, which is what we did each night for a drink and food at one of the many bars along Beach Road. Pattaya has changed from the last time i went from having lots of English and US tourists, to mainly Russian and therefore the feel of the place is not the quite the same.

Getting back to the hotel, it surely has to be a paradise for families and yes there is noise during the day around the pools, but it wasnt enough to bother me. I actually prefer to have something going on around me while i am sunbathing. Not sure if i would feel the same in high season with the place packed out though.

All rooms are genuine sea facing and have balconies where we could relax and sunbathe on the loungers when we had had enough of the pool / beach.

And so to the main reason why our stay here was so enjoyable...the club lounge on the 12th floor. The lounge is open from 0700 - 2300 where you are served breakfast, lunchtime snacks, afternoon tea, evening cocktails/canapes, and late night night caps all inclusive and as much as you want. Now do not expect this to be a business style lounge as it is a resort hotel, but where else could you have this club service in your shorts and polo shirt. The styling and surroundings are very clean and modern though, and the girls working in there are tireless in their efforts to serve you and make you feel special.

Breakfast has a big buffet to suit European and Asian guests, and also has table service for your tea / coffee, cooked eggs, bacon etc. We had eggs benedict with smoked salmon every day. Its served from 0700 - 1100, and while there was a couple of hundred people in the breakfast room on the ground floor, there was maybe 20 of us in the club room.
The rest of the presentations during the day are fine, but not so big in choice so use the time in there to have a respite from the intense heat with specially made fresh coffees, juice, a beer, soup, fruits and even for us homesick Brits there was homemade mini scones, jam and cream.

Evening cocktails are from 1730 - 1900, and although its not quite apparent you ask for whatever cocktail you want from the menu, or have a short or cold beer or a glass of wine with canapes. You will be asked if you would like another as soon as your glass is empty!

So while these girls run around after you and always say hello and welcome as soon as you walk through the door, there was still many guests not even saying hello, returning a smile or even acknowledging them. How rude! I dont speak Thai but i have learned to say hello and thank you, and maybe that just enhanced my experience and service, but what effort does that take?
I did have to accept 2 apologies from these girls, firstly while we were sat on the outside balcony i had to get up to collect an ashtray from the next table, straight away a girl came to me to apologise from my inconvenience. Bless her. Second time i think i had had maybe 4 vodka tonics during the free evening cocktails and just before we left a girl came over to apologise that she thought she gave me gin instead of vodka for one of the free drinks. I hadnt noticed and couldnt believe her honesty. Can someone please tell me where i can find such service in the UK please?

To sum up, if you are looking for a 5 star luxury quiet resort with stunning beaches and water, Pattaya will not be for you and you can expect to pay £150 a night for that in Somui or Krabi. For what we wanted and expected, then the Centara exceeded our expectations in all areas and for once i was pleased with the choice i made when booking just after Xmas. Yes there are kids, and yes they are also in the club room, but still we had the most relaxing of holidays. Take the club option if you intend to make full use of it.

Finally, while we were there, a Thai Royal Princess visited for a few days i guess in the royal suite on the top floor, complete with 20 car escort and body guards. It was a bit of excitement as the city came to a standstill to let her though and the hotel closed the lobby so she could get to the lift. If the Centara is good enough for her?

Room Tip: All rooms are genuine sea facing rooms anyway. Our club room had a bath and seperate rain shower, bu...

We had to spend one night in Pattaya for business and stayed in an upgraded room on the club floor. It had a kitschy safari decor. Felt like we were in Disney. Resort is great for kids, but not our cup of tea for a couple. Italian restaurant did serve great food though. The spa had a lovely design but was a little dirty. My massage treatment was not good, and was cut short by 15 minutes which left a bad impression on me. The "vibe" at the hotel was definately very "Russian tourist". It's probably one of the better resorts in Pattaya (which is short on 5 star options). I think we'd try the Sheraton or Dusit Thani next time.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at and would definitely go there again. The hotel is well managed and the service is excellent. We stayed on the 13th Floor and the view from our balcony was breathtaking. It made us so sad to leave after 10 days…
The variety of restaurants at the hotel is adequate and reasonably priced (for a 5 star hotel). We tried most of them as travelling in Pattaya at night with a child is not my thing.
The ONLY two things I can fault this hotel on:
1) No air-conditioning in elevators.
2) The complimentary Shuttle service is not so complementary (@50 THB) and they must add more time slots. (like, 11 am & 11pm)
This hotel is mainly occupied with families with young children, so if you get irritated by the little rascals this hotel is probably not for you. Our 4 year old had the time of her life and we had to bribe her to leave the “slide area” at the pool. As soon as she opened her eyes in the morning, it was either: When are we going to swim? Or I want to go to the “Toyshop” …. (This is really the Kids Club)
We booked the Mirage Club Package and it was worth every sent. The hotel also had a special where if you purchase 10 000 THB “Non-refundable” credits for Food and Beverages they give you an additional 5000 THB to spend.

just returned from centara grand, the hotel is so beautiful the pool area took my breath away, especially at night when all lit up. Never had a problem getting sunbeds, we used the infinity adult only pool which was nice just to get away from children for a while, because unlike any other hotel i have stopped in this hotel is mainly for familys. We was on the 3rd floor which is good because the lifts are always busy so we could walk up stairs, the room fantastic, sunbeds on balcony all rooms have sea view. The only grumble i have is the food round swimming pool, expensive and the couple of times we ate there the food we had wasn't cooked properly, we did complain to the manager but he didn't seem to be too bothered! Can't comment on other restaurants as we didn't use them. This hotel is mainly used by russians and thai familys, the russians i'm sorry to say are so rude, no manners and on several occasions we could have gotten into arguments. The breakfast is served from 6.30 to 10.30 and was good plenty of choice, and you are sat outside in lovely surroundings. The location of this hotel is lovely the beach a lot nicer than the one off beach road, within walking distance family mart, massage, bars and restaurants.

Room Tip: I think a lower floor would be better if you dont want to be waiting ages for lifts, so you could us...

The Centara Grand Mirage is a huge, beautiful resort located North of the crowded beach strip of Pattaya. While not on the main strip, it is not too far for a walk or a 100 Baht Tuk-tuk ride right to the center of the strip. A great place for families with small kids who don't really want to see the pole-clinging women every time they step outside. The lobby is tastefully done and often has performances in the evening. The water-park is a bit limited in terms of slides and is often full by 11AM. Kids still have fun and can easily spend a full day on it. The beach is a thin strip of rough sand-not too appealing. You can hire speed-boats for a ride to local islands, para-sailing and snorkelling but be ready to bargain.

A family mart right outside the gate is useful for snacks and drinks. The buffet breakfast is exceptionally good with tremendous choices.

The biggest problem is the check-in/out staff. We had booked 4 family rooms, 2 months in advance but they couldn't get us rooms even on the same floor-sold out! They actually gave us one small room until we realized it the next day. Then instead of apologizing, they tried to cover up staying they did it to put us together. On check-out, we realized two large bills added to our account that we had not incurred. We insisted on seeing the bills and found the bills for food signed to our rooms by someone else! We spent 1 hour at check-out sorting this out.

Travelled direct to Pattaya after arriving in Bangkok which was very easy. Had a great couple of days in this lively hotel with children, who loved the beach location and waterpark.
Great food and service and altho busy, we always found well located sunbeds together for a party of 8!
Rooms were fantastic with beautiful views.
We upgraded to Club, which was fantastic and we also took advantage of the Baht bonanza - great VFM.
Would definitely recommend and can't wait to return!

Room Tip: The duplex suites were great for our family and gave us some privacy
