“Top Aussie Hotel in Pattaya”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Stayed for a week in September this year with my wife and daughter, so needed two rooms but have stayed at "Shaggies" many times. Always great value with a choice of three different room types, all are air-conditioned and clean. Shagwell is a budget hotel with great food, cold beer and a nice swimming pool. Shagwell Mansions has a couple of restaurants and bars, although one of the bars was closed when we were there. Plenty of sport on the big screen TV's is you need to keep up with the success of your favourite team.
Shagwell is about 10 minutes from the centre of town by taxi and 5 minutes walk to the supermarket. 7/Eleven and Tesco are only two minutes walk. Loads of local bars and restaurants within walking distance.
if your looking for a budget hotel that isn't right in the middle of the rat race that is Pattaya, Shagwell is the place for you.

Room Tip: Studio rooms are best for a little extra room and a view of the pool. Prices are cheaper if paid wee...

Just stayed the two nights, plenty of vacancys and room as the hotel is well off the beaten track. There is a seven/eleven 20 metres away and plenty of bars/restaurants nearby. There is some condos called Nelam close by so plenty of people around this area.
You have a huge Big C (formerly Carrefour) 500 metres away with foodcourts plenty of ameneties. The soi from hotel to main road is not good for walking there are plenty of motor bikes whizzing past and no footpaths. The main road where Big C is located is very busy and not easy to cross
After midnight all the bars music around gets turned down. Could not believe how quiet the area was after 11pm for Pattaya.
Rooms excellent bed quality good tv channels choice very good. Could not fault the rooms. Very crisp good aircon strong fans and a good stocked up fridge. Only 700 Baht per night with breakfast included. Slight problem in that although receptionsits very polite they never told me breakfast included and did not say very much. Maybe they could communicate better when I checked in.But hey its only a slight gripe.
They have good quality breakfasts the "small boy" breakfast for 99B which many of the people from the condos in the area came for. A nice Wombat bar next door which was always more busy at the weekends because live english footy on tv. There was a small pool at this bar but did not see anyone use. A big chang beer only 70B at this bar.
Even though the hotel is far from the beach and Walking street the little area around the hotel was lively enough until mid night and a good atmosphere
The rented rooms for one month at 12,000B look slightly on the pricey side and there are much cheaper to be had in Pattaya.
All in all would recommend this place and would go back again. Nice atmosphere and a happy hotel

Room Tip: Just tell the hotel staff you are a light sleeper and they will get you a room around the back

Had a great time.Yes, fair way back but motorbike taxis in abundance plus baht taxis end of road. True Aussie"s. Love a laugh but very protective and caring of me.{old bird of 54 so no hidden agenda}. Boat trips organised and good fun. Yes, oisy but change room if not happy! Darcey a darling, made sure from get go that i was involved and now hav a great mate. Now to be known as WOMBATS, as they agree it"s a silly name. Already booked for this xmas but in their apartment block around corner. Cant wait!!!

Stayed at Shagwell (stupid name) couldn't fault the rooms, 880 baht standard room( the quietest rooms face on to the small lane) with free brekkie(value 99baht)are the best value and all you need, studio rooms are good too but pricier.Problem with Shagwell is the two NOISY bars on both sides, also the distance from beach road, having to take a death defying 600 metre walk to get to the baht bus which has long delays in traffic gridlocks. If you just want to stay and drink there and visit the 7/11 across the road and are a maker of noise then this is the place for you. They also charge 20baht for 15 minutes on the computer when you can walk over to the block opposite and pay 24 baht for an hour on GOOD computers run by two pretty girls.

Although it has a very strange name the hotel is by far one of the best budget hotels I have stayed at.

The staff appear to be unfriendly but when they get to know you they are exceptionally friendly and helpful.

The restaurant serves up a good breakfast that is included in your room rate, and main meals are very reasonably priced.

You can get a baht bus or motorcycle taxi at the front of the hotel to take you anywhere and there is a convenience store opposite.

Compared with other budget hotels in the Beach Road area this hotel is very quiet.

Shagwell is a decent, clean and good value place to stay. Had a lovely, large room overlooking the pool. Not the cheapest or best place we've stayed, but would recommend, particularly if you enjoy being away from the hustle of walking street or soi 8.
