Sorry this review took so long to post .... 2 Families (with young & mid teens) stayed at Samui Paradise for one week in July 2012 (thanks to the advice of Trip Advisor contributors) and could not fault it. Actually, all of us chose Koh Samui as the favourite part of our 2 week holiday in Thailand & Samui Paradise the standout best accom. in Thailand.
Samui Paradise is calm & laid back & has a lovely pool in tropical surrounds overlooking the ocean. It is a relatively small, boutique style hotel. Most of the time we had the pool to ourselves. The restaurant has a great beachfront setting (and ... yes, you can book a table on the beach so that you can dine with the sand in between your toes ... we did). At all times, staff were polite and accommodating.
Breakfast was lovely overlooking the ocean. The food was fresh & delicious. On offer were Thai breaky choices + Western choices of fruit, egg station - omelette of your choice; fried/poached/scrambled + bacon, tomato etc,). They also had a few European choices for the German/Russian tourists - but they didnt dominate this resort.
Rooms were Thai style & comfortable (including the beds). We were travelling with another family & had 1 x family beachfront suite (with a spa on the deck overlooking the sea) and the other family had 2 x Grand Deluxe Rooms. We all enjoyed it (although they did mention 1 of the rooms had a smell coming out of the drain in the bathroom but we found this was very common in Thailand ... you just throw a towel over it lol). Surprisingly, in the family suite there is no wardrobe space but there is a full sized fridge! Also, the spa worked off & on & there seemed to be repair men there for a few hours every day for a few days, but that didnt bother us as we were out & about & the beach was right in front of our suite. The repair men were polite & considerate.
Very good security here (a security guard was even on duty at the beachfront all night).
Hotel is at the lovely south end of Chaweng Beach with clean white sand & the depth to swim directly infront of the resort. We did have sea lice (really bad actually) for a few days during our stay, but we just went to the pool. Also, only a handful of polite hawkers visited the beach in front of the resort & they were not a disruption at all... just sold corn, sarongs or jewellery. At night a lantern seller would visit. Give the fireworks guy a wide berth though, he almost blew our heads off twice!
Every night we would walk up the beachfront to a restaurant & have dinner ... a very pleasant stroll. Was way too hot during the day though, so we jumped the local transport for a dollar or two each.
When I return to charming Koh Samui one day in the near future, I would not hesitate to book-in at Samui Paradise, infact, I wouldnt stay anywhere else.
Beachfront is amazing but all rooms are only moments from the sand ...
