I really don´t know how to rate this hotel. The fact that Koh Samui is too crowded may be a factor. I'll try to explain. My spouse and I usually spend our days on islands that barely have roads or electricity. This year we travelled with good friends who needed some last days shopping before leaving for home. We decided to accompany them to Koh Samui. Together we found Montien House on the internet and booked for 4 nights.
Our first meal was a disaster, some rubberlike chicken and tough meat, and we thought it was going to be a really bad experience.
But, as it turned out, the restaurant was ok, especially the thai dishes. The bungalow was great, comfy beds, fridge, safe and a really nice bathroom. A little place outside to sit, drink and smoke while loooking at the numerous varietys of birds in the lush surroundings.
The pool, totally ok. But why my hesitation?
It's not a life I want to live on my vacation. The area around the pool and the beach beneath the hotel is crowded with people. The sunbeds are taken very early in the morning, and I don't want to have to rise out of bed at six in the morning to get a good sunbed.
It's a short walk to busy streets and shopping. Or ladyboyshows...or sportsbars...
It seemed to be a place where older people stayed. It was very quiet, both at the hotel, and on the beach.
Montien is located in the north end of Chaweng, and you can take nice strawls from here. Lots of other restaurants to choose from nearby.
All in all, a very decent place, but if you don´t like crowded places, live somewhere else. And, if you like airplanes, you will have plenty of opportunitys to study them, since Montien House lies precisely under where the planes take off from Koh Samui Airport...
