I felt sorry for the Baan Hin Sai. It looks as though is was once a reallly nice resort but it's now reallly run down and depressing. There was nobody else to be seen in the whole resort when we were there expect the odd couple at breakfast. There were holes in the wooden walkways and the ride in the gold buggy up and down the resort is like a scary ride. Don't stay here if you don't want to spend your holiday walking up and down hills. The television reception is horrible and the place smelt damp. The resort is sittuated on a busy main road and is no good for anybody thinking they can go for a walk. The only good thing was the view but this didn't make up for the rest of the dissapointment. We stayed one night and left to find another. Sorry Baan Hin Sai but you have to pull up your act!

Booked this hotel through a travel agent in Phuket.
First impressions were that it was a lovely resort, were welcomed with a complimentery drink when we checked in. Our luggage was taken from us and we were then taken in a golf buggy to our room ( a very steep hill!!!)
The rrom was nice - all the furniture was made out of teak wood and was really very nicely done. How ever the room did smell damp, maybe this was down to the amount of wood in the room, and we couldnt get any hot water for the 2 nights that we were there.
We were on our honeymoon, and within an hour of checking in, we recieved a happy honeymoon choc cake - nice touch.

Didnt rate the food, or the restaurant service. The hotel was also very quiet, meaning that only 1 bar was open and one of the restauarants was shut.

One tip would be go to The Cliff for dinner - owned by a South African guy. Very trendy, good music, great view - especially if you get a table out on the decking outside, serious cocktails. It is expensive - but worth it for a treat. I believe that it is also good for lunch.

We also did the trip in the jeep - we only did the half day, which we were pleased about, the full day would of been too much. Worth doing if only for the swimming in the waterfall!!!! We booked this through the hotel.

I'm going to say some fairly negative things about Baan Hin Sai, so let me start by saying we enjoyed our stay for the most part. However, please consider your expectations before deciding to stay here.

There are two very important things to know about Baan Hin Sai. First, there is no swimming beach whatsoever. The seafront is very rocky, which makes for a beautiful view over the sea, but you will be very disappointed if you are looking for a beach to swim or sun yourself. Second, the resort is built on a very steep slope. We stayed in a Deluxe Seafront Villa at the bottom of the hill overlooking the sea. The location and view were magnificent. However, the lobby and the breakfast restaurant were all the way up the hill, which was a very tiring walk. (We called and asked for a golf cart a couple of times and were told nobody was available). Luckily, the dinner restaurant overlooking the sea was steps to our cabin.

The cabin itself was nice and very roomy, though not particularly beautiful. Our chief complaint was that the water was always lukewarm at best. We had a large deck with a view over the ocean and an outdoor tub--also with lukewarm water, which made it less inviting. We loved the sounds of the waves right outside our cabin.

The breakfast (included in the price) was very good, although it did get a bit predictable after a while. The food for lunch and dinner was superb, and was much cheaper than any restaurant we found in town. We would highly recommend eating dinners at the resort.

The Baan Hin Sai was probably a beautiful resort when it was built. The setting is magnificent, with lush landscaping and spectacular views of the sea. We were surprised to learn that it is only six years old, because the resort really seems to be run-down and out of repair. It seems that they have done no maintenance on the place since it opened: there are slats missing from walkways, pool and deck chairs are broken and have exposed nails, and the the whole place is in need of a good paint job.

Service is also particularly lacking. While the staff is polite, none of them seemed to be at all trained or attentive, and their English skills are for the most part very poor. Also, there is no information available as to the procedures at the resort: times for meals, what facilities are available, etc. We discovered halfway through our stay that there was a second swimming pool that we did not even know about.

We enjoyed our stay at the Baan Hin Sai. We were looking for a relaxing and quiet getaway, and that's what we found. We also really enjoyed the food. However, we would not return to the resort. Those looking for a spot near the action of Chewang Beach or a "luxury" resort should look elsewhere. The place needs to be completely renovated and they need to do a major upgrade in their service standards in order to compete with other resorts in the area.

We stayed at Baan Hin Sai for six nights in July. We booked the deluxe seaside villa. Our first impression was great from the moment we checked in to our actual room. The villa number was 333, the best one in my opinion. It had spectacular views of the Gulf of Thailand. What a thrill to wake up to the ocean right in front of you. Overall the staff seemed inexperienced, immature and did not speak English very well. The breakfast was not very fresh and had been sitting out for a while. We had a wonderful full English breakfast at Bo Phut Beach one morning. The facility could use some renovation as it is beginning to look worn and outdated. There is no beach which is nice because it stays quieter. We had no problem picking up a taxi along the road in front of the hotel. Overall, we would probably not stay here again. It was a good value with great views, but outdated and poor staff.

I organised a surprise honeymoon destination for my wife at Baan Hin Sai. Having only website photo's to go off (travel agents did not know about this place) i booked 5 nights in the deluxe seafront villa and 8 nights in the chalet.

As organised by the resort, the transfer was waiting for us at the airport. On arriving at the resort i could tell straight away that my wife was very pleased with the choice.
Set amongst a hillside, the resort is nestled amongst the natural forest and massive rock formations. The resort is built in the typcial Thai style which made it even more romantic. Yes there is a steep incline from reception/restaurant to the villa's but its only a couple of minutes walk (you could buzz reception for a golf cart), but, what you get in return is a spectacular view overlooking the gulf of Thailand.

Stayed in both the most expensive villa and also the standard chalet i can say that both were very comfortable. Both had views of the gulf. The only benefit with the seafront deluxe was absolute ocean front (the standard chalets are behind, but higher), larger room and a private deck with hot tub, especially nice at night with a bubble bath, champagne and the sound of the ocean below :)

The second day i was there we decided to head into town. Ordered a taxi from reception which did not arrive. Seeing so many people getting around on scooters we decided to hire one instead from reception and within 10 minutes one arrived for us (make sure you ask for helmets). I must say this was a great decision. $6 AUS per day, it gave us the freedom to explore the whole island while being extremely cheap to run. Most Thai's get around on scooters and although it seems a bit chaotic on the road, it only takes a day riding to get used to it. My advise is to permanently hire the scooter for the whole time you are there.

While on the island we visted quite a few other resorts to compare. To get anything better was just way too much more, so Baan Hin Sai gets our thumbs up for a beautiful resort at a great price.

On our return home we stayed in at Centre Point Petchbury, Bangkok which was also a great stay.

Pro's: Very quiet (staying in town centre is noisy), beautifully landscaped with 2 pools, tradtional Thai architecture, warm and friendly staff, views forever, close to town centre and good value for money.

Con's: Breakfast choice was limited, restaurant staff and food were mediocre (go elsewhere). Hot water system in both rooms did not get much hotter than warm (hot climate anyway), property maintenance could be better.
