This resort is right on the coast of Koh Samui and though there is no beach, you can spend time on the huge rocks by the water (not safely, mind you!). The setting is gorgeous jungle set in a hill so there is LOTS of climbing to be done to get elsewhere on the grounds - the hills are quite steep. However, you can call for the 'golf cart' to pick you up and take you to reception and the staff will also use it to bring you and your luggage to and from your room.
The chalet was not quite what I expected; it was not a stand-alone building (those are the 'villas', I learned) but it was in a building with other rooms. This ended up being fine as it was very quiet, but I was a bit disappointed.
The room itself was charming in a rustic way with wooden furnishings. The bathroom was a good size but the window in the shower was not clean (it would be hard to clean as it is far from the ground ... but it doesn't look nice) and the horizontal blinds in the shower weren't the best choice in my opinion (better to have the glass covered with that plastic that lets light in but you cannot see clearly through). The bed was comfortable and there was a fridge and safe and air con as well as a balcony with two chairs and a table looking out over forested area. The bed was comfortable, sheets and towels clean, and there was a fridge and safe.
The internet only works at reception, and even then it was not strong at times. Food at the restaurants was very good except for the ice cream. Not that it didn't taste good, but when I ordered 'one scoop' I didn't expect the scoop to be the size of a melon ball with heaps of whipping cream on top to make it look big... don't waste your 50 baht!
Unfortunately I did not find the staff here friendly or very helpful; at times I felt like my simple questions were irritating to them. I also nearly got run over twice by the golf cart which flies around the steep grounds. The second time was at night and I had to jump off of the paved path to avoid getting hit and ended up scraping my ankle.
The multi-level pools are a big plus for this resort; they are nicely built into the hillside and both have nice views either of the resort/ forest below or the sea.
There is no beach but you can risk walking on the big boulders on the shore.
the resort is across the street from the Best Western and within walking distance of the lookout and Frog's restaurant (about 20 minutes) but to get anywhere else you'd need some transport. There are no little shopping areas within walking distance.
Despite the few negatives, I would like to go back to this resort for a quiet and peaceful getaway surrounded by nature.
Stayed on the third floor of a 'chalet building' but would have preferred a villa.
