After much deliberation and review reading,we chose to spend 10 nights at the Samui Palm Beach Hotel,in Bophut,Ko Samui.
With 3 children,15,15 and 11,we were concerned about which accomodation to chosse, but opted for 2 villa apartments which were "interlinked".These were large detached hotel rooms dotted around the resorts beautiful gardens.Ours weren't actually connected but shared a veranda,so felt like they were.We didn't opt for beach front (which were more expensive and slightly smaller) because none of them were connected, but they looked lovely and had there own sun longers! We had a sea view anyway, which was beautiful. The villa apartments were very slightly dated, but very clean and neat and had huge beds. The children had an extra 'put up' bed in theirs ,which was also big and comfortable.T.V and air con ,of course.Rooms cleaned and made up daily.
Fantastic breakfast included which had everything you could wish for, served in a lovely room with a view of the sea.
All facilities were great (free internet was a big plus,in reception area)
There is a brand new part of the hotel called the Royal Wing, which has the same price rooms as others, but they are absolutely stunning, would be very tempted next time, but they are about 1 minute further from beach!
The hotel was beach front, had views of Ko Phangnan and other parts of Ko Samui island, absolutely beautiful. The beach was great, but not soft white sand as on Chaweng Beach (15 min taxi ride away),but it was quieter. The beach sellers and massage ladies were really nice and not too pestery!
We ate a lot of the barbecued sweetcorn (50bahts), whole mangoes and pineapples, skinned and cut up by the skilled beach sellers, really delicious.Spring rolls were also delicious, despite being in the hot sun for hours we didn't suffer any tummy trouble at all.We had several manicures, pedicures, facials and massages for between 100 and 300 bahts (£1.60- £5.00!!), the foot scrubs were also absolutely amazing and sorted out even the most awful rough skin!
The resort itself was small and quiet, with a few,but enough, beach restaurants .Chaweng beach is a 15 minute ,350 baht taxi ride away and has great shopping and beautiful beach and hotels and restaurants. We didn't stay here because we thought it might be tacky and too busy, but actually although it was busy,it was really nice. With teenagers, this would definitely be the better place to stay, because they could easily and safely go off shopping on their own ,or have a bit of a wander.
All in all Samui Palm Beach was great, lovely people, great service, good prices, great pools and restaurants.
