“Should be better for the money”

I have been to Thailand between 35-40 times since 1973. For the price point, Samui Palm Beach is not what it should be. We booked a "Villa" and it is nothing but a larger standard room. The materials used to construct it are average, not what one would expect from this price point. This place should appointed finer for the room rates. The restaurant is also average.

The service was good, the gardens nice and the beach is Bophut which has less hawkers than most on Samui. But for dinner, we walked a few hundred meters down the beach and found better food for half the price at the Peace Hotel, whose restaurant is on the beach and they have seating on the sand on pillows for those who wish it.

The rooms at the Lawana are a little nicer, and about the same size for the standard rooms. The rest of the Lawana is a nicer property.

If you are looking for a place that will handle your family with children, this will work. If you are a couple looking for more of a romantic place, this is not it.

We holidayed with friends and rented 3 Garden Villas to accommodate my husband and I, our friends and our respective teenage daughters from the 22nd August for 9 nights. We had tried to book the Beach Front Villas but they were already booked. We were not disappointed with the standard of accommodation or location of our rooms. They were spacious, furnished to a high standard and had all the extras to make our stay very enjoyable. Hair dryer, safe, TV, fridge, four poster bed with mosquito nets. We really enjoyed the supply of ice and clean beach towels supplied every evening.
We ate in the Tradewinds Restaurant on our first evening, but then visited a number of restaurants a short walk down the beach in the Fishermans Village. We thoroughly enjoyed the varied choice of food available for breakfast every morning and the restaurant staff could not have been more friendly, polite and helpful. We also appreciated the free internet connection to allow us to keep in contact with friends and family. Staff were very helpful to position sun loungers and umbrellas on the beach directly in front of the hotel. We also made use of the plentiful supply of massage treatments available on the beach and the locals preparing fresh pineapple, mango and barbecued corn on the cob. We would not hesitate returning to this hotel.

“fantastic holiday”

Samui Palm Beach Resort & Hotel

After much deliberation and review reading,we chose to spend 10 nights at the Samui Palm Beach Hotel,in Bophut,Ko Samui.
With 3 children,15,15 and 11,we were concerned about which accomodation to chosse, but opted for 2 villa apartments which were "interlinked".These were large detached hotel rooms dotted around the resorts beautiful gardens.Ours weren't actually connected but shared a veranda,so felt like they were.We didn't opt for beach front (which were more expensive and slightly smaller) because none of them were connected, but they looked lovely and had there own sun longers! We had a sea view anyway, which was beautiful. The villa apartments were very slightly dated, but very clean and neat and had huge beds. The children had an extra 'put up' bed in theirs ,which was also big and comfortable.T.V and air con ,of course.Rooms cleaned and made up daily.
Fantastic breakfast included which had everything you could wish for, served in a lovely room with a view of the sea.
All facilities were great (free internet was a big plus,in reception area)
There is a brand new part of the hotel called the Royal Wing, which has the same price rooms as others, but they are absolutely stunning, would be very tempted next time, but they are about 1 minute further from beach!
The hotel was beach front, had views of Ko Phangnan and other parts of Ko Samui island, absolutely beautiful. The beach was great, but not soft white sand as on Chaweng Beach (15 min taxi ride away),but it was quieter. The beach sellers and massage ladies were really nice and not too pestery!
We ate a lot of the barbecued sweetcorn (50bahts), whole mangoes and pineapples, skinned and cut up by the skilled beach sellers, really delicious.Spring rolls were also delicious, despite being in the hot sun for hours we didn't suffer any tummy trouble at all.We had several manicures, pedicures, facials and massages for between 100 and 300 bahts (£1.60- £5.00!!), the foot scrubs were also absolutely amazing and sorted out even the most awful rough skin!
The resort itself was small and quiet, with a few,but enough, beach restaurants .Chaweng beach is a 15 minute ,350 baht taxi ride away and has great shopping and beautiful beach and hotels and restaurants. We didn't stay here because we thought it might be tacky and too busy, but actually although it was busy,it was really nice. With teenagers, this would definitely be the better place to stay, because they could easily and safely go off shopping on their own ,or have a bit of a wander.
All in all Samui Palm Beach was great, lovely people, great service, good prices, great pools and restaurants.

If you don't want to stay in Chewang this is a great alternative. In fact don't stay in Chewang as it is just mass tourism. If you haven't been for 10 years or so you will be shocked!
The rooms at the Palm are well appointed and the gardens, pool etc are well maintained.
Don't expect 5 star - it is a 3 star but good at that.
We upgraded to a superior room which was huge and situated around a large swimming pool.
Staff are helpful - wasn't a problem when we managed to catch an earlier flight and late check out was also OK.
Apart from breakfast didn't eat at the hotel as there are a great selection of local restaurants all along the beach.

I stayed here with my husband and another couple for 3 nights from new years eve. We stayed in a garden room which although these are the cheapest rooms, they were fine, we got exactly what we paid for. The resort is right on the beach and has 3 swimming pools. The staff are very friendly and helpful and our rooms were cleaned every day. There is also free internet access for guests. The new years eve gala dinner that we pre paid for was excellent. It was definitely the best new years eve we have ever had. This was our first visit to Thailand. We will be returning again and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Samui Palm Beach Resort. Bophut itself was a lovely area of Koh Samui and would suit couples or singles alike.
