“Just what we needed!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

I stayed at the Baan Samui with my two children aged 7 and 5. We had a ground floor room and were very close to everything we needed. Turned left from the room for the pool, beach and one bar/restaurant, turned right for reception, the other restaurant and the road. Supermarket opposite sold everything, perfect for fussy eating child who only wanted yoghurt! Right in the centre of Chaweng, so close to shops and restaurants. However we mostly ate in our hotel in the evening as they had great cover bands and the staff were so kind in the restaurant with the children. The breakfast was great - there was a huge selection to choose from, even for us as vegetarians.
The most important thing for me was that i felt safe with the staff in this hotel. Our cleaner Auong was kind and friendly (altough she was leaving) and from the moment we arrived (hot and exhausted of course) until we left Waewwagee the manager was welcoming, reasssuring, professional and kind.
The room was not huge, but did have a big bed, flat screen tv with 24hr cartoon channel, safe, tea and coffee facilities, a small fridge and a wonderful walk in shower that we could all fit in at once, plus a separate bathroom with bath. The aicon was efficient and adjustable.
We were not ambitious and did not venture out much, but that was our choice, and we didnt need to as we had everyting we needed right there in the resort.
Chaweng main road was overwesternised and unpleasant, but i knew it would be!
It was a very different holiday from the backpacking around thailand that i had done before i had children, but was exactly what i wanted on this occasion.

Room Tip: I expect they are all to the same high standard - we had superior deluxe as recommended by others on...

Great location but was very surprised that the breakfast area was not air conditioned and that smoking was allowed, and that there was no air conditioned bar area. We also had problems with the wifi. Great pool area. I would not recommend this hotel or stay ere again

Room Tip: Would not recommend

Myself and my partner stayed at the Baan Samui for 7 nights in September. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a hotel, though I will begin with the pros.

Pros: It is a very well located hotel. It has excellent access to a gorgeous stretch of beach.

Cons: The Hotel itself, and the staff, are dire. There was generally mould everywhere, including in our room. The walls of the hotel are EXTREMELY thin, and you can hear small coughs from your neighbours very easily (if staying as a couple, this can prove disastrous). Furthermore, myself and my partner were covered in bed-bug bites from our stay. From head to toe. Between us we managed to count over 100 bites. It was TRULY horrific. Hotel staff did not offer as much as an apology for this, and in general were very unhelpful and rude for the duration of our stay. Breakfast itself was average in quality, though the quality of the room itself left plenty to be desired.

There are much better hotels in Koh Samui for the same money. Would not recommend.

Great place - staff friendly, great location. Nice & quiet in our room (top storey which was 3rd floor) peek of the beach from balcony with lovely tropical gardens. Lovely sand & beach for swimming. Pool area good, and restaurant right on the beach, great place to chill. Breakfast was fabulous and included in room rate. Very bright colours which somehow seemed to work. Only about 15min slow stroll up the road to the more crazy part of town but walking along the beach is quicker & nicer. There is a mini supermarket right across the road from Resort. Great value resort, not 5 star but also not 5 star prices. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms above breakfast restaurant at front of resort (they also back onto the road and front bar whic...

We stayed at this hotel from 28 Jan until 9 Feb. I will list the good and bad points:

Good:
- Perfect location - right on Chawang Beach and right in the middle of all the markets and shops.
- Nice bar andf eating area out the front and live music every night.
- Happy hour at the back bar from 4-6 and then happy hour out the front from 6-8. Cocktails were great and were only 99 baht in happy hour which is about $3.30 AUD.
- Great pool at the back of the hotel and sufficient seating if you got there early enough.
- Clean rooms
-Friendly and helpful staff - albeit it was hard to communicate as only one could speak good english.
-Ok breakfast but the bread was not covered and there were a lot of bugs on it.
- Free bottles of water provided daily.

Bad
- Our first room had a leaking airconditioner so we were immediately moved to another room. We staid in the second room for a few days but the smell in the bathroom got worse each day until it was unbearable (I cannot explain how bad it was). We were moved to a third room and only experienced the bad smell one night.
- The beds were very hard and not all that comfortable.
- They did not provide soap - we had to ask for it. Also they did not provide alarm clocks or irons which we would have thought were standard.
-The bottle opener was located on the wall opposite the toilet - not a big issue but a bit gross.
- The beach towels were stained with makeup and blood and were very old. I have never stayed at a hotel with stained towels before - they did however wash them daily if you put a please make up my room sign on the door.
- The safe in the room was not bolted to the wall - thus anyone could have come and taken it away.
- You have to pay for wifi - no major issue as you get free wifi at most bars and restaurants nearby.

If you want budget accomodation in a central location and dont need luxury this hotel is fine. I myself would not stay there again as a comfy bed and clean plush towels are important to me, as is security.

If I went back I would spend more money and get a nicer hotel that does not have that horrible drain smell.

For what I paid it was adequate and we did really enjoy our stay - I guess I am just used to staying at nicer places here in Australia.

Room Tip: Take your own beach towel as the ones they provide are threadbare and stained. Make sure you have lo...

Really nice room, really friendly staff. Room was freshly cleaned and stocks refilled daily and both the pool and bar were great, nice chilled out vibe at the back of the hotel at the bar and the resturant at the front had great live music and a nice atmosphere. (the band they had on the night we went down were this awesome local band with an unbelievable range of music covers, fantastic!)

Its a bit of hit and miss if you get an english speaking member of staff at reception or not but having seen the staff at a few of the other hotels while having dinner i can definitely say they were the friendliest and most helpful i met.

The range of food there isnt great and it was far from the quality we were able to find at other venues, for less money but thats my ONLY gripe with the hotel, would absolutely recommend it for a nice getaway.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor with a view of the beach if you can, the rooms at the front of th...

My hubby and I stayed here from 4th jan to the 12 th , it was a lovely friendly and clean hotel:) the room we had initially was losing power, so the next day they gave us another one. It was lovely, close to the pool and beach, and spotless , will definitely be returning to this beautiful, friendly hotel in a most magical location. There was a bit of a funny smell in the bathroom, but quite honestly , toughen up whingers, it wasn't that bad :) cant wait to return.

Room Tip: Ground floor, close to pool and beach = awesome :)
