“Beware of the QVC timeshare.”

The Samudra Retreat Samui

It seems to be a common problem at this and other Quality Vacation Club (QVC) hotels. People are given a scratch card and told they have won a "dream vacation". Turns out it's in a 2 star dump. The Thai staff at The Samudra are very nice and well presented at all times. The rooms are ok, but it's a heck of a hike up and down to the rooms. This is no place for the old (over 40: ). It's out in the middle of nowhere and taxis are too expensive. The food is good, but expensive too. I would go back if the QVC staff were not there trying to sell timeshare to everyone.

We were roped into this place and showed around. The we took a salespitch from one of the many Quality Vacation Club (QVC)staff that were there. They told us all the wounderfull things about being a member. However, none of it was true as we found out when we went to book our next vacation, we got right royally screwed over. Thousands lost. Stay away from this. Went there to enjoy, got ripped off.

We had a wonderful 7 night stay at the Samudra Retreat and loved every minute of it.

It is in a fantastic location, very peaceful and on a cliff overlooking the beach. We hired a scooter for the whole of our stay, which i would definately recommend. It certainly makes it easier to get around. The beach is not the best on Samui, but is still up there. There are quite a few restaurants and massage places on the shore which are very well priced, and a lot cheaper than the hotel. Would recommend most of them.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The grounds are so very lush and well manicured, you can tell a lot of work is spent on the upkeep. We had a garden view room rather than a villa, and for its price was definitely worth it. It had a great balcony which actually had sea views, very comfy bed, and a great bathroom. The villas did look fantastic, but a bit out of our price range. Should we have had the money, I would have liked to stay in one.

The pool areas are very nicely done. There is a massive pool up the top of the resort and a pool bar is being built there. it is very relaxing and quite peaceful, not many kids. The main pool in also beautiful, and again it did not get too busy. There were always enough lounges and towels to use.

Breakfast was included and was just delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed this every mornng. The variety was great.

It is set on a cliff, however there are golf carts to take you around, and the walk isn't too bad. It is probably good for you after eating the huge breakie!

We had such a lovely time here we would definitely come back.

“Fantastic Hotel”

The Samudra Retreat Samui

Me and my husband stayed here as part of our Honeymoon.

We had a Lotus pool villa which was gorgeous. The pool was a decent size and had a jucazzi section at one end. Which was a nice place to enjoy the bottle of bubbly the hotel left us in our room to celebrate our honeymoon!

The villa itself was spacious, large bedroom, lounge, kitchen area, bathroom and an added bonus of an outdoor jucazzi bath an shower. Our villa was about 1/2 way up the hill and was a pleasent walk although in the heat and with tired legs the golf carts to take you up the hill were definitly well appreciated.

The breakfast at the hotel had a good selection. I would definitly recommend the chefs Omlettes, it just a pity the chef only seemed to be cooking from 7am, so on the days we hit breakfast at 6.30am as we we're going diving we missed out!

The location of the hotel is at one end of Chong Mon beach. There is a number of restaurants on the beach and we ate at several of them and all were delicious food. I'd definitly recommend enjoying the oppurtunity of sampling the fresh fish and the beach location, we much prefered the chilled out atmosphere than the lively Chaewang. We also ate out at Fishermans Village at the shack, which was great steak and definitly worth a look.
Tip: If you get a taxi back most people know the hotel as the peninsula and won't recognise the name of the Samudra retreat

The only thing we were disappointed about was the level of service. On ou last full day we woke up to find the pool green, we called reception who promised to send someone straight away. In the end after 3 further phone calls and over 3 hrs we went down to reception where we spoke to a woman who said she was the manager and sent someone up. But they couldn't fix the problem, 5hrs after our intial complaint we were finally moved rooms but with no apology for the inconvinence.

“Had a fantastic honeymoon would definately recommend!”

The Samudra Retreat Samui

I have recently returned from my honeymoon in Koh Samui and it was the best holiday we have ever had. I am sad to read some of the previous reviews as we had a fantastic time at the Samudra and couldn't fault a thing.

It was our first trip to Thailand and booked the hotel and flights online. We arrived at the airport and we were totally gobsmacked when we saw the airport, it looks like a hotel with it's thatched roofs and 'posh' toilets...there's a huge tropical fishtank in the mens. We hopped in a taxi (500 BHTS) and when we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by lovely hotel staff and a refreshing drink. Check-in was efficient and we were immediately taken by golf cart to our room. Like others have said the resort is on a hill and we were at the top but the carts are always whizzing about so you can get to your room.

Our room was very clean, no mouldy showerhead or dirty towels. In fact it was the opposite. The cleaners were in at least once a day and when you returned of an evening the bed had been made and there were flowers on the pillows which we thought was a nice touch.

The pool areas are very clean and we found all the staff very attentive or you can visit the beach which is only a few mins walk away.

The resort of Choeng Mon is fairly small but there are a few nice bars where you eat or you can get the shuttle bus to and from Chaweng which is far livelier if that is what you are looking for.

Overall we had a fantastic time at this hotel and we would definately recommend a stay there.
