Me and my husband stayed here as part of our Honeymoon.
We had a Lotus pool villa which was gorgeous. The pool was a decent size and had a jucazzi section at one end. Which was a nice place to enjoy the bottle of bubbly the hotel left us in our room to celebrate our honeymoon!
The villa itself was spacious, large bedroom, lounge, kitchen area, bathroom and an added bonus of an outdoor jucazzi bath an shower. Our villa was about 1/2 way up the hill and was a pleasent walk although in the heat and with tired legs the golf carts to take you up the hill were definitly well appreciated.
The breakfast at the hotel had a good selection. I would definitly recommend the chefs Omlettes, it just a pity the chef only seemed to be cooking from 7am, so on the days we hit breakfast at 6.30am as we we're going diving we missed out!
The location of the hotel is at one end of Chong Mon beach. There is a number of restaurants on the beach and we ate at several of them and all were delicious food. I'd definitly recommend enjoying the oppurtunity of sampling the fresh fish and the beach location, we much prefered the chilled out atmosphere than the lively Chaewang. We also ate out at Fishermans Village at the shack, which was great steak and definitly worth a look.
Tip: If you get a taxi back most people know the hotel as the peninsula and won't recognise the name of the Samudra retreat
The only thing we were disappointed about was the level of service. On ou last full day we woke up to find the pool green, we called reception who promised to send someone straight away. In the end after 3 further phone calls and over 3 hrs we went down to reception where we spoke to a woman who said she was the manager and sent someone up. But they couldn't fix the problem, 5hrs after our intial complaint we were finally moved rooms but with no apology for the inconvinence.
