“If it's not a Friday, don't bother.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

We were offered a free transfer to the Fisherman's Village by our resort. Even though we weren't going to be there on a Friday, we thought we would drop in on a Tuesday night anyway and check it out. Big mistake. You can walk the main strip in 15 minutes. There are only a couple of cocktail carts. No live music. The vendors who are there have a bored air about them. We got sucked into a restaurant on the strip that was a real tourist trap (reviewed elsewhere). Actually, without the entertainment etc, that's exactly what this whole strip felt like. By reading other reviews, it's obviously quite different on a Friday night, so IMO if it's not Friday don't bother!

“Friday night market”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

The village puts on a night market each Friday. It draws a large crowd from all over Samui and s worth the trip. Much of the goods on sale can be found in most of the other markets, however, in Bophut it's concentrated to two streets. Some of the established shops have better quality merchandise and these are interspersed with restaurants of all types. Dinner overlooking the bay towards Koh Phangan is a must.

“Excellent good way to sped Friday evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

This was our first evening in Koh Samui. We took a taxi and arrived at Fishermans village around 1730. By 7pm the place was full of local people and tourists. Theres something for everyone. Good value shopping, food stalls offering live cooking, try the padh Thai, coconut ice cream and skewers of all sorts. The mojitos are the best. This is great intro to koh samui and there many massage options. Lots of different restaurants as well. Definitely a must!!

“Lovely village with lots of character..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

My friend and i visited Fishermans Village during the day and found it delightful..Had a couple of the yummy cocktails at the roadside (Mojitos are the best we thought) and then had lunch at the Irish Pub which was lovely with the views over the bay...Stalls were reasonably priced and we picked up quite a few bargains after a bit of bartering!! We intended to get back there for the Friday night market but time got away from us...Good to see all the reviews on it...Will def go back there when in KS again!!

“A cheap night out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

If you are going to Samui and have Friday night free, this is a GREAT way to spend some time. It takes about 2 hours to meander through the whole thing if you stop and look, eat and drink. And overall, it's pretty small. If this is your first walking street on vaca it will be super-fun with lots to look at it. If you've been to more than one you'll see the same frog made out of wood and t-shirts. But occassionally you'll find something unique. Like the guy who really does make his own t-shirts and the designs are actually nice. The vendors aren't as nice as those in Chiang Mai with one woman literally yelling to me "NO, YOU PAY ME MORE" and, well, I just don't do business with people who yell so her loss. The best part is the food and drink though. Mixed drink stations every few feet for a mojito or mai tai. Grilled chicken drummettes with a super tasty sauce, fried pork and other deliciousness. And then, DESSERT. Over by the restaurants I wandered upon a lovely older man selling homeade coconut ice cream. This was THE BEST ice cream I have ever had and it was served in a freshly cracked coconut where he shaved some of the coconut from the base for you, added the ice cream, offered 1 of 3 super-cute toppings and decorated it with an umbrella. One of the best memories of Samui, I swear. You must try! And later, a banana pancake from the guy at the corner near the beach. It really was the best pancake (more like a crepe) with coconut and chocolate. Fantastic! (Oh to have that ice cream again!). Restrooms and washing stations are LIMITED.
