I try to avoid the "tourist" modes of transport in Thailand at all costs although getting to and from Koh Phangang is virtually impossible without them which is a real shame. Lomprayah & Songserm have no reason to be proud of anything. They're both awful and should be ashamed of themselves.
After standing in the rain for 3 hours whilst waiting for a boat we realized there was a restaurant 300 metres from the pier which no one at Lomprayah bothered to mention. There was no information about which of the 3 boats were going to where - Samui, Phangnan or Ko Tao so masses of wet people were simply confused and frustrated then herded haphazardly onto boats often the wrong ones.
Apparently the company has'nt figured out that a few simple signs would make a huge difference - "Boat 1 Koh Samui" - "Boat 2 - Koh Tao" etc - not too much to ask.
Instead of having to try to communicate with the rude, surly & informationless staff the masses of tourists that keep these crappy business's running might simply board the boat that's headed to their intended destination because there's a clear simple sign with the information. I dunno, like an airport or a bus station or a train station.
Every few years I make the mistake of not arranging alternative transport and every time it's an awful, rude, disorganized & disappointing experience. If you can avoid either of these companies do so at all costs. There are almost always alternatives.
