“Great homemade Thai Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

This is a very small and modest restaurant that serves genuine homemade Thai Food.
Food is very good and service very attentive.
Also, it's one of the few restaurants that let you chose the level of food spiciness...they created a simple range from 1 to 5. Great for those who like spicy food but consider the regular Thai food too much spicy...
Definitely recommend!

“Great food 3 times...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

We visited first on a recommendation from Dean Cleeton (samuitongson) and tried the Special Shambala dry Curry with tomatoes and herbs and asked if they could do Kua Kling Moo (not on the menu, a southern Thai specialty, not easy to find as it's too spicy for many). They could and did and both dishes were brilliant.
We went back again with a group after a get-together of Koh Samui Forum regulars at Coco Tam and we had Som Tam, Gang Gari and Larb Gai, the best Larb Gai I've had on the trip, ordered at their number 5 level (spiciest level) and it was perfect. Serves are quite large too.
We went back a third time for lunch, kua kling gai and Massaman Nuea, both excellent flavours, but the beef (as it often is in Thailand) was a bit tough going as the massaman is prepared fresh and not long-cooked, go for the pork or chicken version.
Shambala looks a lot like any of the other small restaurants on the side of the busy road in Bangrak, basic furniture and usual traffic noise, but the food is definitely worth trying.
If you like genuine Thai food, Shambala is highly recommended and inexpensive.

“Thai to Try”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013 via mobile

Great place that has a small feel to it, with a great food choice. You can always get some western dishes, but EVERYTHING we had there was worth the price. Very modest prices and only a step out of most hotel doors! Go ahead and give your taste buds a Thai experience! Side not, be careful of the spice, 3 is a solid go to when asking for spice amount!

“Genuine Thai food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013 via mobile

Well worth a visit, very good food, friendly staff and service. We can recommend it for its great Thai food on a street where there's very few restaurants.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Traveling during low season it's hard to judge which places to eat by the amount of customers within, however with a bit of research we found this gem! The curries are bursting with flavour, enjoyed our meals and going back for lunch!
